I have contacted Transfer Flow and RDS Manufacturing about building a custom tool box that has a 20 gallon fuel tank in the base of the tool box. Transfer Flow has agreed to look at this project, and if there is sufficient interest, they will build a custom tool box for the 05+ Tacoma based upon our input.

I have told Transfer Flow that it seems to me the UWS Low Profile tool box is most popular for the Tacoma. I have asked them to duplicate this design with the addition of a 20 gallon (approximately) fuel tank in the base of the tool box. Federal law will not allow a direct connection between this "auxilary tank" and the factory tank. I am suggesting that they install an electric fuel pump on the drive side that will allow the user to fill the truck's fuel tank, or fill ATV's, water craft, dirt bikes, lawn mowers etc.

Here's a link to a larger tool box that Transfer Flow currently manufactures. It is too big for the Tacoma.

    http://www.transferflow.com/toolbox_refueling_tank.html

The purpose of this thread is to gain interest from perspective buyers. Transfer Flow will be conducting an online poll very soon to "measure" interest level.

I am asking everyone that is interested to "subscribe" to this thread so that I can direct you to the poll when it begins. Also, I am asking that this thread is mentioned on other forums with Tacoma owners. I will need the assistance of "everyone" to make the project come to fruition.

It is my hope that there are many other Tacoma owners that would like additional fuel for filling toys and equipment, not to mention an additional 400 miles of fuel on hand for long road trips.

    Thanks for everyone's help!! DD

Most tool boxes are around that price. You want them to add an electric pump, hose and more room for the fuel all for free?

I just picked up my Tacoma and was already on their site. I would be interested in something like that for my longer trips.

To the top for the Sunday nite crew. Please let me know your interest. Also, if you are a member on "other" Toyota forums, please mention this project on those forums to gain interest. Thank you! DD

I would be all for something like this since I tow my trailer and usually carry a couple of gas cans as my towing mileage is 8-10mpg. I usually carry 10 gallons though.. not sure if I would actually fill a 20 gallon tank up due to the extra weight in the bed. Personally I would rather see a 10-15 gallon tank and have more room for tools instead. Just my 2 cents.

FYI also as a 2 cent comment... if you install an electric pump see what they can rate the GPM flow at because pumping that much gas with a small electric pump is going to take a long time without a good GPM flow rate.

Thanks for the feedback. The "20 gallon" is only an estimate at this point as the tool box has not yet been designed, only discussed. I will do my best to accommodate everyone's input and needs. My main intention is to double my cruising range in case of emergency, fuel shortages, natural disasters, and have fuel on board for sea-do, atv, and motorcycles.

I'm searching for someone in the Chino area with an 05+ Tacoma that can go by their factory. I posted a request in the "northern California regional section" and am awaiting a volunteer. Transfer Flow needs about 30 minutes of someone's time so they can measure the "long bed" to design a custom tool box for us.

Why would it need to be a long bed? Does the shortbed and the longbed have different wheel bases? I just thought the bed was a foot longer?

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
the extra foot is at the front of the bed, making the wheelbase longer on those DCLBs

Why wouldn't you just look for an L shaped transfer tank and put an OTS tool box in the angle?
