    Thanks man!!
That picture was from 2007 when I worked as a white water raft guide in north carolina and tennessee. That river was the French Broad r. just north west of Asheville.

IDK how far it is from you, but the youghiogheny river is supposed to be pretty sick for western PA

And I guess I need to ask... Have you been to Ray's?
Completely different "extreme sport" but youre from OH

Any recommendations for an ocean kayak that won't break the bank?

Depends what you want to do with it. My yak board ^ is like $300 but it's not something you want to try to paddle other than surfing waves or just playing around. If you want to fish or paddle any actual distance go for something bigger

Ouch... I feel bad for your hood where the bow line is going to rub off the paint..

Yea I would definitely look at something bigger then. Maybe around 12' long.

Enough years of using ropes with no visual rubs have me not stressing so much. Straps on the other hand are brutal. That being said 2 square bits of cardboard under the ropes for a bit of insurance :D Unless the Taco paint is total junk we'll be ok.

Anyway, enough paint is coming off the sides from narrow trails, the front was feeling left out.

I use a bike cable lock and slide one through a scupper hole in the kayak and tie it down to the D-link in the bed. I then just use some ropes on the bed rails to keep it from moving around in the bed. Yak never touches the paint.

that is when I wish I had a sit on top with the scupper holes. I hate leaving my yak unattended if I have to go in to the store for something and not locked down. people around here snatch that crap up instantly. My friend lost his yak off the top of his car one day on the highway, someone told him it was about 10 miles back in the median, he ended up driving 20 miles back, turned around, never found it. Someone got off the highway and scooped it up that fast.

That sucks! Don't they make locks for kayaks with some type of industrial glue, or maybe bolting sime type of hinge to the kayak so you can lock it up might be doable, just use some water proof seal around where you drill.

I like having the piece of mind of being able to kayak around some local spots where I can just lock up my kayak to a rail or post, go on a hike or to a local mart and come back to know that my kayak is still there waiting.

Yeah I have been putting a lot of thought in to how I could secure mine but it seems like either way I go, it would be pretty easy to either rip the mount off with industrial glue, or I have though about bolting a U shaped hook to the top somewhere but you could easily reach in and undo the bolts and take the U hook off.

at my part time job we sell kayaks and we put them outside when its nice out to try and stir up business. we lock them with a chain. if you look at the seat in most kayaks, there is space between the side of the seat and the side of the kayak. we slide the chain through there, that way if some one wants to steal the kayak, they either need to cut the chain or cut the seat out of the kayak.
