VA Question

Guys,
I figured I would post here because it's the most relevant area for this. I need to go to the VA about some issues I have had since I came back from Iraq. I don't want to go into any detail about my issues but I have no paperwork backing up my issues that I have had. What can I do to have this taken care of? These are health issues. Thanks guys.

 

Be honest with them. They are there to help you. If you join the American Legion they can help you push the required paper work that you may know nothing about.

 

was this an incident that occurred in the line of duty, meaning you should have had an LOD filled out, or is it something that developed after your return and can't be linked to any specific incident?

 

Developed later. Some happened there but I have no LOD because I didn't think it was anything but I am still dealing with it, years later.

i would get any issues documented with the VA for sure. even if they reject your claims, you have documentation from the VA. years down the road, things may change and the VA may cover you (i.e. agent orange exposure)

 

See if Alabama has a state-level agency that can act cooperatively (for you) with the fed VA. Here in Texas we have the Texas Veteran's Commission. They are usually very effective at dealing with the VA--that is there job--and work to help the member navigate the VA bureaucracy and make adjustments on initial and future VA claims.

A word of caution: If you ask the VA to review your disability status they will review your whole status (not necessarily your new condition) and I have seen at least two people have their VA ratings reduced when reviewed a second time. Not sure if this applies to you at this point just thought I'd throw that out there. Best of luck and I hope you get the treatment you need!
