my spedo is off by +20 so when im doing 80 it says im doing 100mph. than the governor kicks in around 103 (actually 83mph) so it gets really annoying trying to pass people here on the hwy14 where the speed limit is 70 and average flow of traffic is 80mph.

i cant seem to find anything through the search so i figured id ask if anyone has removed or knows how to remove the governor so that i can do my thing when i drive.

or better yet anyone know how to fix the speedometer or even know what could have cause it to be off in the first place...maybe a re-gear caused it? it does have a 3 inch body lift and 31in tires but it could have had 33's+ on it that were removed before i bought it.

    thanks in advance broskies...

Oops just realizes it's a first gen.

There's this cog gear by the transmission output shaft that determines the speed. If you replace that it will fix your speedo. Judging by your post at 83 it reads 103 you have 4.88 gears like me.

I believe you need a 33t gear. But it will still be off by a bit.

Thinkin the governoer is programmed into the ECU. Probably have better luck fixing the speedo so the ECU doesn't react to incorrect reading.

I thought this thread was gonna be about how to make Arnold go away based on the title.

It's hard to be a shitty driver when everyone around here smashes at 80-85 lol..

I just drive with flow of traffic and don't even notice I'm going 80 half the time..but at 80 and without having to let off or get on a million times..truck gets like 26ish..
at 70..it feels like it's lugging the engine in 5th and it only gets like 22-23

lol slow down? regardless of my driving i still like to fix my truck if it has issues. and i promise you everyone around here goes 80+ and to do 70 all the time and not be able to do anymore than 80 is dangerous and pisses people off. and i know its 20+ off because i have a gps speed app on my iphone that tells me my true speed and its exactly +20.

thanks man this was good info. and the gear issue could explain my strange engine issues. its always seemed as though it was bogged down like i was driving into a head wind all the time. what is the characteristics of that gear ratio? and would it be beneficial to go back to stock since im running 31's now?
is that cog gear hard to change with it being in the tranny bell housing an all?

Nice find, Andre. You should send this link to St Andrew so he can add it to the stickied first-gen how-to thread.

X2. The concept of the passing/fast lane is lost on American drivers. It's tragic. There should be a special place in hell for the drivers who come screaming into a major freeway interchange at rush hour doing 80 in the slow and merge lanes where other drivers are getting on from a dead stop at meter lights. A very special place in hell.

im pretty sure iv seen online before about a gear in the tranny bell housing but cant remember on what year it was but im thinking it was a 99 like mine. but i see what your saying because as far as i know my 99 has a electronic wire connecting to spedo on the cluster and not that mechanical cable on the older models. so i do wonder what the gear is doing than.

and yeah im pretty much given up on the governor issue i need the speed to read correctly now.
