Which stock should i buy?

So I finally found a shotgun for home defense (if you remember I posted asking for help with my decision). I wanted a remington 870 but found this at a pawn shop brand new for 250. Its a mossberg 590 with a pistol grip.



However, I know that a pistol grip is the last thing i want in a tense situation. I decided i wanted something with a shoulder stock and a pistol grip for the added mobility. I am stuck between these three stocks. I would make it a poll but i want to hear opinions more than anything

1.)



this is what i think would be the best price wise and usage.

2.)



does what I want, plus has saddle mount options. However i think its a bit too "tacti-cool". This knoxx stock also promise "95%" recoil reduction.

3.)



Straight up "tacti-cool" and has a stock (without bumper though).

Please tell me your experience if you have any and which one you would choose.

I disagree. The pistol grip only is much better for manuevering in your house or vehicle when defending yourself.

If I was you I'd save your money and I'd buy a side saddle for extra rounds, and buy a tube extension.

That's weird you say pistol grip only. My bro (a swat captain) told me to get something with a grip and stock because 1.) it can be shot one handed easier and 2.) it has more leverage and is harder to be pulled out of your hands in a fight?

Am I missing something else in my considerations?

I agree with your brother. There are few things in this life as useless as a shotty with no stock(IMO). Maybe good for a Semi/armored car driver due to extreme close quarters, but anything outside of a few yards with a pistol shotty is just spraying and praying, IMO, b/c there is no real way to aim the weapon besides pointing it.

I'm not even a fan of a pistol grip+ stock configuration on a Mossberg b/c of the safety location. (I'm cool with that configuration on an 870 b/c the safety is in a different location on tht shotty) With a normal stock on a mossy, your thuimb is placed in close location to the safety and it can be easily operated by simply sliding the thumb up an inch or so. With a pistol grip-stock configuration, your thumb is located underneath the safety. The time it takes you to reach around to the safety with your thumb negates any tactical ability gained by the pistol grip+stock configuration b/c that extra second could mean life or death. Not to mention your grip on the pistol grip is deminished for that 1 second your thumb is actuating the safety and not being used to stabilize your grip.

With that said, the nicest fitting, working and looking stocks for the mossy 500 (IMO) are the Speedfeed and the Hogue. Unless you just have to have a folding or collapsible job.

-BTW- I just picked up a 500 SP 18 1/2" yesterday. Found it for $199, so I just went ahead and bought it.

 

+1 on the Houge or Speedfeed regular stocks.
I use my shotguns all year round. I hunt ducks, quail, turkey, pigeon, dove, geese, rabbits and coyote(only sometimes with a shotgun). I use my shotguns more than any other firearm I have. The all around best configuration for comfort, quick acquisition of target, and the ability to shoot buckshot (and in the case of my 835, the ability to shoot 3.5" mags...) is the regular stock. Pistol grip stocks have a nasty tendency to get caught up in the material of your clothes near your armpit when you bring your shotgun to bare from a relaxed position. Pistol grips suck ass with most any kind of buckshot which is the best home defense round I can think of.

 

Yeah, my 835 is older than the hills and one of elevator assembly arms broke and it was just a matter of waiting for the part. Mossberg was so surprised that it broke that they send me one for free.

Knoxx Comp stock is amazing. Makes recoil into baby stuff. It actually works.

 

That's pretty cool. I have never seen/used one of those. It says it's based off a Hogue Overmold design, too. Hmmm.

 

Yeah, but;
1. It's effing expensive
2. I don't shoot heavy loads for fun
3. Recoil is not felt when
a. you are hunting, say ducks, with 3.5" shells or
b. you are shooting buckshot at a BG.

So, I don't really see the need. But a lot of folks are happy with it.

I suppose its true about being harder to take from you, but I fire mine one handed no problem.


Also, with as much adrenaline that would be flowing through should I acutally have to use my shotgun, NO ONE will be taking it from me unless they are prying it from my cold DEAD hands.


-FWIW, If I ever put a shoulder stock on a shotgun, I'd have a foldable/collapseable stock.

 

By wife's brother is on the Maricopa County SWAT team and he agrees with me (I just called him).

One of the problems with #2 is that the stock has no angle to it therefore you can not get a low enough cheek-weld to see the sights. Which may not be a big deal to some but it is to me.
