2011 TSB rough ride just done

I just had the rear TSB done at Don McGill in Houston. They didn't make a fuss about the swap, which was nice. When they explained what they were going to do they told me that the swap only included the leaf pack, which is what I've read here. When I got the truck back they had replaced the leaf packs and done all four shocks. The shocks are unmarked as far as I can tell, and all black. I already have the front 5100's and eibach springs on order so that's not an issue. I'm just curious as to what these shocks are and if they're worth a damn.

 

They are made by tokico. The 5100s in the rear will give you a much improved ride.

 

what, but you have a TRD Sport? why would they put the crap tokicos in?

 

I'm not sure why they changed out the shocks either, as they said they weren't going to change them. I had the yellow billsteins on there already.

 

i also believe the TSB would upgrade not TRD trucks to the yellow bilstein shocks. i'd take it back, get your yellow TRD shocks back

 

Only up until 2009. Then the tsb claims the stock shocks are improved, so they do not change them.

 

taken right from the TSb it specifically says Do NOT replace shock absorbers or bumb stops on Non-TRD option. so apparently the Tokiko shocks are better

i stand corrected. either way, they should have kept his TRD shocks on his truck

the TSB says to change them......so why wouldnt they?

 

it says not to change them.

 

on NON-TRD option trucks.....so the TRD you change them. i miss read it at first also. i had to read it several times.

 

On the older tsbs, it said to replace the non TRD trucks with the TRD suspension, and to do nothing on the TRD trucks. Now the new one says no need to do anything to the non TRD trucks either now.

 

I'm going to call the dealer in the morning to see about getting my shocks back.

This is the second time Don McGill has added their own little twist to my requested repairs. They did me the favor of trimming my weathertechs after I brought the truck to them with a squeaky clutch. They did buy me new mats though.

 

the TSB notes that the 2009 model and up already have upgraded tokico shocks, implying that the tokicos were upgraded when manufactured and therefore do not need to be replaced with the inheritely better TRD (yellow) shocks. TRD trucks would still have their TRD shocks. Non TRD trucks would keep their already upgraded tokico (black) shocks.

the dealer interpreted the TSB just as you did, which is not correct.

 

Not sure what the older ones say. the copy i have, dated 21 Dec 2010 says (in a confusing way) DO NOT replace the shocks or bumpstops on NON-TRD option trucks. That saying, they ARE supposed to change them on the ones with the TRD option. maybe b/c of the little lift the springs give you. maybe b/c they think the Bilsteins suck. i dont have a clue.

so all the dealerships are interpreting the TSB wrong? this isnt the only time ive heard this.

 

and i had a buddy take his 2009 non TRD truck in for the TSB and come back with yellow TRD shocks, which is what they would have done for a 2008. they made a mistake in his favor.

 

eh, im sure youll scrap either one of them in the future anyway.
