So I got my oil changed at the dealership. Had the scheduled expensive vehicle overall check done. This is where they go over the vehicle looking for any problems. Anyway they checked the psi in the tires and "adjusted". So when I got it back for fun I double checked tire pressure. It was at 44psi!!!! When I corrected it ..the Low tire inflation light would come on..after reading the manual some more I realized you can manually reset the monitor..I think it's really bad and potentially dangerous for a dealership to set a extremely high psi as normal operating range..especially having the sensor backing up there error..

Damn... I usually have the opposite problem with my dealer, they always drop me to 28 PSI (probably so it rides nicer). I just tell them not to screw with my tires when I go in.

My steering wheel shake went away after the dealer dropped my pressures to 29 as door jamb sticker recommends. I had been running 35 psi. This was with my stuck Duncrap tires I no longer have. Once I put them back at 35, shake came back.

That's true pretty much anyplace you take it... they all air it up to some crazy high pressure.

The TPMS alarm setting shouldn't change unless they intentionally recalibrated it to the higher pressure. That's just wrong.

I think they do this as a general rule for the cars on the lot so they don't have to air them up as often. When I got mine from the dealer it was 42psi all around and had all kinds of crappy steering problems.

That's not unusual-I have Toyota do my oil changes. I have always had tires that require 35lbs max on my truck. TWICE I caught Toyota increasing my pressures to 40psi! Since then, I specifically request them to NOT bother checking the tires..I will do them myself. Why do they do this?

The error the sensors read was due to when you lowered the psi in one of the tires from where the dealership had them set to. You can set the tmps to any psi, but when one tire pressure is lowered by around 6psi from the others it will set off the light.

The place where I bought my Duratracs does free rotations, and last time I brought it in for a rotation then pumped those things up to 50 psi! Not that they can't handle it, but if I had left em like that there's no way they would have passed a chalk test. I'm guessing they were hoping I wouldn't notice so that my tires would wear faster and thus be able to sell me another set of tires sooner.

i no longer let them do rotations. they torqued my tundra wheels so tight i had to use a 4 foot cheater to break the lug nuts. that's death on rotors.

i think they all over inflate to give people the best mpgs

they pumped my scion up to 40psi and i got 1 better mpgs

makes the tires wear faster but tires for that are cheap as hell

they put my duratracs down to 30 though, talk about squishy, probably because load e rides like shit with 40 but i dont mind

I run my BFG AT's at 45-50 psi on the street. I get really good gas milage like that but once I hit the trail I air down to 15-20 psi. Discount tire tried putting 85psi in them one time because that is what it says on the sidewall at max psi. I just started laughing, I can imaging how hard that would ride!
