Painted my on my second gen, hell of a job. Make sure you sand it down really good to the point that it looks cloudy. I would recommend using something like bedliner. I used regular primer and paint with a ton of coats and it's starting to chip. I'm using bedliner next when I have the time

Bump. Let's keep talking about this. Powder coating could be an option, right?
There are also some gun paints (e.g., GunKote and Duracoat) that I've messed around with with some success.

sand it good and use a self etching primer and even adheshion promoter for even better results. i did this to my crome rims almost a year ago and they are still perfect. ive always used duplicolor, an automotive paint.

Rustolem is also a good company for paint although I havent seen an adheshion promoter from them

if you can afford it, powder coating it is your best option.

dumped exhaust, blacked out tails and third brake, fog light mod, painted rear bumper, rims and front grill,Cobra 29 special edition added.
got a can of bedliner from vato zone and it painted my chrome beautifully, just wet sand, clean and paint
