glorified instructors... dont get me wrong, they are cool dudes who know some cool stuff... but all they do is teach.

why does a survival instructor need to be triple stacked (airborne, dive, HALO) if they are never going to put those skills to use in a real life mission...?

wow. my buddy is getting out of the army (blackhawk crew cheif) and is thinking about going back over to the sand box as a contractor... he could make about $200K over 10 months... a hell of alot more than what he's making as an E-5

if i understand correctly sere instructors have to be static line certified, but can volunteer for the other schools. IDK it just seemed like my kind of thing. i go hiking or camping every single weekend. I guess i m still just keeping my eyes and ear open for all other job options.

SERE folks that have a stack of badges is a waste of government money in my opinion. I think I should be allowed to attend HALO since I spent 12 years in the back of a Herc doing HAL) drops. If it does not benefit your job, no reason to spend the money.

it's not un-common for TACP and JTAC to go to army schools... after all they work hand in hand and ranger units need CAS too

it is very cool career field

Have you talked to your recruiter to see if he can take you to an AD base so you can see first hand what theses folks do. I see your in Va, we have SERE folks here at Langley. Might be worth a car ride down with your recruiter if your interested in going that route.

That sucks. The AF is more than meeting its recruiting goals so the recruiters don't have to try as hard. There is about an 8 month wait on DEP for folks trying to come in.

I did it for 4 years and got out. It just wasnt for me. No challenge what so ever, same thing every day, monkey work. I even had to wait 7 months to get in. I signed the paperwork november 04, got a call from the recruiter in jan-feb that the AMMO job would be opening and I went to basic june 14th 2005.

The one bit of good advice I could give you is to be patient and wait it out for a good job that YOU want.

Don't know if you have gone over to WWW. ROMAD.COM or not....there you can talk to actual TACP recruiters and the TACP reps at Lackland. You can also ask the Schoolhouse instructors (at Hurby) any questions you might have...

Don't just "settle" for any old job. The wait will be worth it.
