The short version of the story is....I sold my 1995 Tacoma x-cab 4WD and have missed it every day since. I had a cap on the back and got about 18 city and 21 highway. I'm now driving a Rav4 and absolutely hate it. Toyota completely lied about the Rav4 gas mileage, and I'm thinking about going back to an older Tacoma. I'm looking at a 2001 same version as described- ex-cab 4WD. My old one and the one I'm looking at are/were 4cyl 2.7. manual 5 spd. I'm wondering if fuel efficiency improved at all in the newer Tacomas. Can anyone please tell me realistically what kind of mileage I can expect to get in this thing? I do a lot of highway driving, and as we all know, gas prices just suck. Thanks!:)

15 to 20 depends on driving conditions. 20 if all Hwy miles, 16 to 18 in town, just keep the the revs 2000rpm and below. This is on a V6 with an auto!

I have an 01 double cab, V6, 2wd, auto tranny, camper shell and get 17-19 in mixed driving. I'm light on the pedal when starting at the light and usually cruise at 70mph on the highway. However, you're asking about the 4 banger so....
