Heat Wrapping Headers

    Hard Wired GPS, Scan Guage II, URD Short Throw Shifter, AFE Pro Dry S Air Filter, LED Mag Lite on seat side,Tailgate Theft Prevention Mod, Removed Front License Plate, Tint Cover Over Rear License Plate, Removed Secondary Air Filter, 13" Shorty Antenna, 5% Tint Rear, 20% Tint Front, Bed Extender, TRD Cat Back Exhaust, Fog Light On Anytime Mod, Dual Halo Projection Headlights, Disabled Seatbelt Chime, King coilovers with remote resi in front, Kings with remote resi in rear, Deaver J66 leaf packs, TC UCAs up front.
    So I got a pair of DTLT headers on my truck a few months ago and now i'm thinking to myself that if I were to heat wrap if that would do any good. I know on some cars they help but also are done just for looks too sometimes. So i'm wondering that if anybody has ever done this or has any idea as to if this would work or not. Thanks alot.

    Wraping the headers with a Heat Wrap is an old, out dated method of increasing exhaust scavenging. Although it allows the exhaust gasses to remain hotter, longer (thus keeping exhaust velocity higher), it also prevents the header from staying within ideal temps, and can make it get too hot, causing a failure of the gaskets, or the header itself.

    I thought heat wraps alleviate the heat of the pipe and protect near components from melting?

    OEM set ups already have those methods in place to prevent heat from damaging components. Heat Wraps can keep the heat in the header, often causing the heat to build beyond what the header was designed to handle, and cause it to fail.

    Nothing really. Some drag racers use them to protect electrical components from the heat, but its a trade off. The electrical components wont get as hot, but the header will get too hot. Not a big deal if the car is under a load for less than 10 seconds.
