Rebuilt title

What's so bad about buying a car with a rebuilt title? I've never understood why people don't like rebuilt titles even tho they have been fixed. As well, does it affect you insurance wise? Like would insurance company charge you more just bc its a rebuilt title or would they just deny you insurance coverage.

Please help!

 

What do you need help with? People don't like rebuilt titles because you don't know the extent of the damage or the quality of the rebuild.All the title is saying is it can be driven.you could have a bent frame,etc..

 

The reason it has a rebuilt title is because it was declared totaled by the insurance company of one of the prior owners. If the repair was done right and it's a GREAT price do it. Just remember that it will never be worth what a comparable truck with a clean title is. I rebuilt a Blazer a while back and got a salvage title for it and don't recall any hassles with my insurer. I would want to know exactly what caused the truck to be totaled in the first place. Good luck!

 

Depends. If it was totaled because of hail damage, and I'm buying it for its mechanical ability and I don't care about the hail damage, that's one thing.

If it was totaled because it was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler, and Joe's Frame Shop's 16-year old trainee welded its front half to the back half of another truck, I'm not inclined to trust the structural integrity.

 

^^ this. heard of stories where vehicles have been put back together and then in another accident and the vehicle did not protect the occupants the way it should have.

 

Plus it can often be difficult to get a loan for a salvage title.

 

Also dealers can't sell them as used vehicles, and will therefore not accept them as trade in on a new one.

 

Also check the Rebuilt title laws in your state. I know some states limit the number of times a rebuilt vehicle can be sold to one or two sales. So if you buy a rebuilt vehicle you may be stuck with it for a very long time.

 

Rebuild is another word for JUNKED.

 

I have kids.

They are much more important to me than getting a deal on a rebuilt. I don't know the extent of the damage, usually don't know the quality of the work that re-built it. The bottom line is I didn't see it wrecked and the guy who re-built it isn't me or a close family member.

Just not anywhere close enough to be worth the risk of some jackass cutting a corner.

One of the reasons they have salvage/rebuilt title is so that people don't take a wrecked car insure it for a few months and then say it was in another accident and collect the insurance money.

When owning a salvage title, you likely will not be able to have full coverage insurance on the vehicle and if you do, if you are ever in an accident, you may have a hard time proving that the damage was a result of the accident and not from when the vehicle was originally totaled. This is especially true for any frame or undercarriage damage.
