I am attempting to pull the lighter socket assembly out and replace it with the outlet and cover assembly. I can get the assembly about half way out and it feels hung up. Any ideas what is causing the hang up?

The attached photo is about how far I can get the socket assemply out. (Photo taken from a Baldwin45 post. Thanks Baldwin45.)

Slow and easy with a pair of needle nose pliers .... Turning left to right .... slow and easy.

The connection is a two blade .... in an "L" shape.

It'll come .... let us know.

The reason it won't come straight out is that it is L shaped. In order to get it out you need to get behind the dash. When I got my truck the socket didn't work cause it wasn't connected and I had to remove it to plug it back in. I won't lie it's a pain in the ass. Some needle nose pliers and some patience will get you there.

    Thanks for the replys.

After reading your responses, the socket finally came out with much gentle pulling and twisting. The black lighter assembly ring was a problem for a second till I figured out that there were tabs on the top and the bottom. I have attached a picture of the ring assembly that I removed. (NelsonTacoma, thanks for letting me know it was offset.) If there was any additional pieces to remove, I left them. Installed the Power Socket Assembly (p/n 85530-06010) and the Power Outlet Socket Cover (p/n 85535-0C010-B2)(gray) that I ordered from Toyota of Dallas's website. Everything works.

    I love this website!!!!!

Pricing is almost everything. My local dealer would not budge on the pricing on anything. I ordered 4 oil filters, 6 plugs (due to be changed at next oil change) and these 2 parts to make it worth while.
