A close friends mom passed away Friday and I "have" to go to the funeral home tonight. I hate this more anything. On my top ten list of things I hate to do this is on top of my list. Seeing a dead body doesn't bother me, it's just the saddness I hate seeing. And, to make matters worse my wife is bailing out of going with me. Damn her!

Aw man, sorry to hear about your friends mom. But, out of respect, put on a tie and some nice clothes and go shake your friends hand. You don't need to stay. He will appreciate it more than you know.

When I get home from work I'll do two shots of Crown and go. All of my friends' parents and my own are in their 70's now. I dread early morning or late at night phone calls, those calls never bring good news.

Funerals suck......there is no such thing as a pleasant funeral. You show up and cry or whatever, but be there. That is what matters.

I went last night and it turned out better than I thought. Thanks to everyone here for the kind words. One thing my friend said to me is to spend as much time with your parents as you can because you just don't know how much longer they're going to be here. My friends mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer one month ago, and she's already gone.
He said " I don't think it's really going to hit me until I see them put her in the ground". Some sad shit but it's going to happen to all of us some time.

Death is inevitable, but life is optional. We all have to make the most of each day we are given--for ourselves and our family and friends.

I'm sorry to hear of your friend's loss.
