I bought a certified tacoma with 35980 on it , went in for the 1st oil change at a different dealer, the rear springs are failed and toyota wont replace them

the springs themselves are frowning, will 2 " aal bring me a little above what stock should be? I want a new leafpack but don't want 2.5 inch of lift

This is a good question because I am having the same problem and do not have the money to buy a whole new leaf pack.

Mine were pretty much flat and I went with a 1.5" aal and Besteins set at 2.5" front. The truck has a slight forward rake and looks great.

OP, have you looked into Supersprings or Hellwig Helper springs? I recently got the lightest duty Hellwigs for my dad for his Tacoma for birthday, they were like 60 bucks and bolt onto the springs. His truck does not have the TSB springs like mine does, and he was sagging like a bitch trying to pull trailers or with a medium weight load in the bed. Now it sits pretty level under load. They have more heavy duty helper springs as well available.

    http://www.amazon.com/Hellwig-1250-...XS26/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312727049&sr=8-1

Pretty cheap, but if you want to do a full leaf pack swap, All Pro makes badass 3 inch lift springs, and you can get the expedition versions which will greatly boost your bed's load carrying ability.

Can you claim the spring TSB? That replaces the whole pack.

my problem is that the springs are upside down right now, rather have some arch to them for the 19' carolina skiff I plan on getting, might go with a 2" toytec aal or a 1.5" allpro progressive, whats the difference in those two springs?

I believe the Toytec is a single extra leaf, where as the allpro employs several smaller leafs together. Multiple smaller leafs are supposed to provide a more progressive force, so that the leafs will not be as stiff until loaded, whereas the single leaf will provide the same force unloaded or loaded.

Being as he bought it "certified", he may have a chance at getting them replaced with the TSB leaf pack....might be worth a shot calling the 800 #

If it poses a danger, you would think it has to be done.

When I got mine done, the service manager told me that the reason they do this (granted, it's not a recall) is because it's a possibility that someone could be towing something and have a load -- things would be "thrown off" if the springs weren't good. He said that someone COULD lose control of the vehicle.

I don't tow so I really couldn't understand how it feels to drive while pulling something.

You may check to see if you have a spring shop near you. If you do see what they can do-especially if you want to keep the stock ride height.

Being you just bought the truck and it just being out of warranty, I would call Toyota North America and see if you can get anywhere that way. The truck is too new and just bearly out of warranty for them to decline the repair. Their regional rep might see it a different way than the dealer. If not it's nothing a set of dakars won't fix for about $400. Or another way you could go is to buy someones old OE leaf pack that they upgraded GL

    Stock for now
    So let see,
    1. you bought a certified truck just before original oem warranty expired, plus got an aftermarket extended warranty.
    2. Now 6 months later you take it in for oil change & non-selling dealer says rear springs are shot.
    3. No customer complaint during original warranty for TSB and neither your selling dealership or the one saying the springs are bad say you qualify for warranty replacement? Why doesn't the extended warranty cover it, not even considering the TSB, is it considered a wear and tear part or on the exclusion list?
I definitely would call the 1-800 number for sure & ask calmly how this can happen. How miles out of oem warranty are you? G/L with either upgrade or getting resolution through 1-800 Toyota.

    Sounds like you've been had.

The original owner probably noticed this problem, went to get the dealer to put the TSB leaf pack on, got denied, and decided to sell the truck just before the warranty expired to get the best bang for his buck.
