I've been playing guitar for over 40 years. If chording is giving you grief, all a capo will do is move that problem further up the fretboard. Sorry my friend. There isn't any quick fix. What you need is P-R-A-C-T-I-C-E.

Far as your guitar choice...figure out what you want to play - folk, rock, blues, etc. Then look at what top players in the category you choose are playing (there are always a number of very good reasons why). Then find an affordable version. The Mexican-built Fenders offer great value in either a Stratocaster or Telecaster, but I would avoid the older Mexican Fenders. Later models are much better. A lot of aspirations are dashed by cheap guitars. They're harder to play, sound crappy in comparison and don't inspire many players to continue. Buy used, and buy better gear than you think you can afford. Great deals on good stuff can be found on every street corner, and craigslist is as good a place to find them as any.

I didn't get the capo as a quick fix. It was to make bar chords a little easier until I can get my finger work/strength up enough to not need it.

Right now I'm going to keep the plain Rogue Dreadnought. It is not the nicest guitar, but it holds its own for a beginner. It was given to me by my uncle, who is pretty much a guitar and guitar playing expert. He said it would be great to start out on. I also looked at plenty of reviews of it and pretty much all of them said that it was great quality for the price and a great starter or secondary guitar. I don't feel like sinking any money into it until I get more into it and better at it. This guitar does what it needs to for me; it keeps a tune, has a good sound, and works for the acoustic country that I am wanting to play. As I get better I am sure I will pick out a nicer, better name guitar. But as of now, I'm content with picking on the one I have. Thanks for the advice.
