!BAD VIBRATIONS WITH 5100 @ 1.75!

Hello guys I just installed my 5100s and set them to 1.75 for a level look, 05 prerunner 2.7 2wd and i do not have the tsb done. Yes i used the search function and my previews did not show my exact concern. The ride feels great until i get to 32mph and that is when i get vibrations from hell. it shakes the whole cab and rattles the dash but only under acceleration. Could this be my drive shaft angle? Any help would greatly appreciated

 

May seem obvious, but have you checked all your lug nuts after putting your wheels back on after the install? Just a thing to check first. I've had mine go loose in the first 15 miles whenever I do my tire rotations, and so I always check them after 50 miles or so.

 

So as of now you have no lift in the back right? It can't be your drive shaft.
Check you installation for loose bolts and proper torque
Fyi: You will need an alignment.

 

Yup, thought that might be the problem as well. It vibrates pretty bad and i dont want to mess anything up especially since this is my only mode of transportation.

 

correct no back lift, and yes i will need an alignment but that wouldnt cause crazy vibes in cab

Okay I just finished triple checking torque on all of the bolts and everything is solid. I did notice the 2 piece drive-shaft has a lot of play where the two pieces connect...is that normal?

I had the same issue and it is most likely your drivers side front axle. Too severe an angle. You can check that by driving in 4wd at 30- 40 mph. If it goes away , it's the axle.
I corrected mine with a homemade 3/4" diff drop. Tho once in a while I still get a light hum. I am not going to worry bout it tho.

 

Correct me if I am wrong but prerunners do not have cv axle's. and do not require diff drop kits.

It is possible it is a problem with the carrier bearing (the piece that connects the two pieces of the driveshaft). Recently I read of another member having this problem when he had too much rear lift. I'd be suprised though if just a front 1.75 lift caused that though.

 

I was thinkin the same thing but first I would try getting the rear lift on there asap to see if the vibes go away.

 

Well its a 2wd so its not the front shafts, and I replaced the revtek 3" lift kit with the 5100s for a better daily driver and removed all lift components including blocks and spacers. it actually sits lower now so i dont think angle has anything to do with it?

 

I used to have bad vibes, the tires were not balanced correctly.

 

Just put on new tires that were balanced at discount tire and were perfectly balanced 300miles ago, could they have been thrown off balance from removing the tires in order to install the 5100s?

Hmmm...my upper and lower ball-joints were a little jacked, but were not causing bad vibes before, could the new angle cause this sort of stress and cause cabin shaking vibes

 

Did you used to have rear lift blocks and you removed them? If so, check the torque on your u-bolts and that would mean you did change the rear geometry which could be causing your vibrations. How much play do you have at the carrier bearing? There is some movement, but shouldn't be a whole lot.

Balance could have been thrown off if you knicked a wheel weight. You'd have to be pretty rough with the wheels though to break off the wheel weight but it's possible, especially if the shop used stick on weights.

 

I did remove the rear blocks and torqued the hell out of the ubolts using a breaker bar and my little brother who is 6' 3" and 240lbs of man-child! The play of the drive-shaft was not back and forth it was more of an up and down where the 2 pieces meet, I know there is supposed to be some play but there was about a 1/4" gap between the round bushing and the round mount where they connect, is that normal


I did use the tires as a seating device so I wouldnt jack-up my lower back and could have possibly knocked off one of the adhesive weights, but I dont remember seeing any weights as I cleaned up the parking lot.
