    <====== THIS GUY!

I used to pay my mechanic to change the oil every 3k.

Now that I'm using Mob1 Synth, I change it myself every 5k

    it's ALMOST too easy!

I do it myself using Mobil1 'cause I don't trust the garage or commercial store to give me Mobil1 when I ask for it. Some will charge you for it and give you dino. So do it yourself and be sure. Allows you to spot any problems brewing underneath. Every 5K, and right before the winter, very easy and so much clearance.

As a professional auto technician for 25 years, I've seen the damage and stupid mistakes the semi-trained monkeys at the quick lubes and the dealership do. It amazes me how they can screw up a basic oil & filter service ( cross threded, stripped drain plugs. Loose drain plugs. Filters finger tight and leaking or on so friggin tight you nearly twist them in half trying to get them off, not to mention nothing gets lubed or gear boxes checked). I commend my fellow taco owners that choose to do it yourself, you know its done right. My only advice to you is find a reputable independent shop to inspect your rig once a year ( or twice a year if your hard on it) to make sure there are no safety or mechanical issues that a professional eye can spot. Most reputable Independants will treat you right and not try to sell you a bill of goods that are not necessary.

    Just my two cents worth...........

Who doesn't love lying on your back and looking up a Taco's skirt? Gotta do it yourself! Its the only guarantee I have anymore

Cheaper, faster, and I know exactly what was done when I do it. I look for other problems while I'm in there too.

I do my own and enter all of my service info into ToyotaOwnersOnline.com, which puts it into the same database with the dealership service records.

I will be using the dealer until my 2 year toyota care runs dry. At that point I will be installing a futomo oil drain valve and doing it myself.

Someone remind my why Toyota put the oil filter upside down on the top of the engine? My Grand Am had the filter on a 45 degree angle at the bottom of the engine, nearly impossible to make a mess with it. Same with the drain bolt. I could change the oil without a single drop hitting the ground. As soon as I loosen the bolt on the Taco, my hand is instantly covered in oil. And the oil comes out so fast that some oil pans can't take in the oil fast enough. The only nice thing is the truck is tall enough to get under it without jacking it up.

Attach a 5/16 hose with a hose clamp to the filter drain and run it down through the opening in the skid plate. I leave it attached and plug the end after draining...never had one drop on the driveway.

Jiffy Lube does mine because I'm too lazy and it's been over 100 degrees here for weeks. And, they also give me $15 off since I've been going there for years.

For now I will be going through the dealership because of the toyota care, it's free for 2 years. After it's used up I will be doing it myself.

2 years free oil changes so until that runs out the dealer. When I need to pay for them it will be getting done in the garage.

I change my own oil and do all other maintenance and repairs if I have the tools to do it.

Why? Partly a trust issue, you never know if the person doing the work knows what they're doing, but I enjoy doing it and like to know how things work.

Plus, by doing the work myself, I often can spot problems before they become problems.

Besides, nobody cares as much about my truck as I do.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
I just put a cup under there (McDonalds, Whataburger, Sonic, etc.), fits right in with no spills, it wedges in just right so I don't have to hold it. I keep meaning to pick up a hose, but I only remember when I have already drained the oil and go to take out the filter.
