? hooking computer speakers to t.v.

hey guys, just had a thought the other day about hooking my 7.1 logitec speakers up to my television. has anybody done this and how hard will it be? I would like to have it so if I want to listen through my computer, i can disconnect or even if they make a switch, i can just switch to the computer or t.v....

any info or anything will be great.

I don't think it would be a good idea
unless the t.v. had a , line out jack

Left out too much needed info. Are the speakers self-amplified? Does the TV have a line out jack, and is it 7.1 ready?

That is exactly what I started looking for when I read this post.

it does not have outputs, the only one i know of would be the headphone jack. i am pretty sure the speakers are self amplified.

ahh yes.....

 

i figured it out. all i did was plug the primary wire (there are 3 wires) into the headphone jack, it works. im not exactly sure what the other 2 are for though. anyone have a clue?

the three plugs (orange, black, and green) at the bottom of the picture are what im dealing with. i have the green plugged in.

edit, looking at logitech's website, they call them mini stereo plugs.

 

im thinking that the green, orange, and black are for true surround sound. Green for fronts, the other two are for rears and center.

if you only have one plugged in, is sound coming through all of the speakers?

 

I believe the other two are what is needed in order to have the 7.1 function working properly. You should have connections on the back of your PC to plug them into (that is if you are listening to audio from the PC, not your TV). With that system, you cannot pull 7.1 surround sound from one line input, you need a sound card on your computer that is capable of producing 7.1 audio, with the proper outputs (green, orange, and black jacks)

 

i dont have the back 2 hooked up but the sub, center and front sides are working.

i have a sound card on the computer. I know i need that.. i just dont know what i can do for the tv.

 

ok, im guessing whenever you have just the green one plugged in, the same sound will come through all speakers, whereas if you had all three plugged in, sounds coming from left front, right front, center, left rear, and right rear will come from the respective speakers.
