New Tacoma owner....Well sorta

Hey guys, newbie here. Im posting for my little brother who just got his first truck. Its a 2000 Tacoma xcab, TRD, V6, Auto. It's in near perfect condition for an 11 year old truck. Its got some miles on it though - 180K. When i checked it out i couldnt believe how clean it was. No leaks, nothing broken or missing and its a complete virgin. Other then all fluids, brakes, plugs an so on.. and new tires what do i need to look for/ do to this thing? I can do all the work myself so thats not an issue. He has no money, so i was guna order up some bilstein struts as a first car gift. If i put the bilsteins on the highest lift setting will it destroy the stock arms or will it be ok? Thanks for any input guys.

 

Welcome! and no the arms will be fine. Im running the same setup. Kind of a rough ride though. Look into the Eibach coils they are longer then stock and run alot smoother.

Thanks for the info. i was looking at the springs also being as the stock coils have sagged a bit. As far as mileage issues, is there anything i need to look out for? Ive read a few things about timing belts needing to be done around this mileage. What all does everyone replace while they are in there other then the timing belt?

 

Water pump, definitely. Sprockets and tensioners or whatever your truck has, if they look worn.

 

x2 T belt is a 90k-mile maintenance item.

Throttle body cleaning is also standard maint. but no reguala interval is given.

If the coils and leafs are original stock, they are likely worn-out mush. I fhe doens't have any money, at least get some good shocks on the thing so it has better traction.


If you go to toyotaownersonline.com and register (free), enter the truck's VIN, and you should get any maint. records of what Toyota has done, and any recalls, and also you can get the standard maintenance schedule.
