Lifting 2wd

I think it is stupid for someone to lift a 2wd truck. I can understand a small lift, but I hate seeing 4in plus on a 2wd truck. It pointless. Yes I know that it does look nice, but it is to no use for serious offroad (bc 2wd) or gas mileage.

 

i have a prerunner with a locker and i do just fine. lift helps in many ways.

 

I have the prerunner with the locker as well. Mine is lifted 3". I love it.

 

I would rather have a 2WD any day for the type of high speed driving I do in both the sand and hard pack! Its funny I pulled out a 4WD Chevy at Glamis with my truck. Locked up the rear and I already was aired down to 5psi. making my tires literally like paddles. I have 33X13X20 Toyo M/T's and when deflated they must have been 20" inch across. I can go up Comp, Test, anywhere in the sand with my 2WD

2WD in the sand is a talent that takes a special kind of person! Sure everyone can sit at the bottom of a hill and lock up 4WD and creep- But not just anyone can come from 30 yards back full speed and soak up the whoops and fly by the creepers!

2WD takes talent- not everyone can do what a 4X does in the sand with a 2X, I am proud to say that I was asked "multiple times" if I was 4X4 while deep inside some nasty dunes. Everyone just looks at you like your crazy- that's a proud moment...

HOWEVER- I have NEVER seen a better 4X4 than the Tacoma, it stomps anything and everything in the sand bone stock! I seen this brand new stock TRD 4X4 literally pull 10 to 15 people out of being stuck. Not just little trucks either- this guy pulled a Excursion and a 2500HD that were tied togeather out AT THE SAME TIME!

 

I think any lift over 3 inches is stupid, but that's just me.

yeah anything over 3 inches is useless. drop brackets lifts are junk, high center of gravity, no thanks

 

3-3.5. Maybe 4. Ok I'm done.

Im at a fork in the road right now over my personal suspension system. I am installing the Camburg LT kit and it's a 3" Lift. However I am thinking about adding the 4" spindles to get 35's on her. The reason being that the larger tire eats up the bumps easier. I love the look of low Pre-Runners- so Im stuck...

i voted no cause its your truck and u can do what you like to it.

 

X2 Your trucks looks good as is, but those spindles would be outstanding. Just my 2 cents.

 

Lifting your truck would also let you change your oil easier.

 

If I were stationed back home (San Diego) I would go with a spindle lift for trips out to the desert. I know there is a jeep racing organization called Jeep Speed, and I believe they only race the 2WD XJ's.

Unless you are rock crawling and have a long travel kit on a 4x4 under this theory(which I don't go by) a 6" lift is stupid as well, you get no greater clearance with a drop bracket lift which is the only way to lift a 4x4 greater than 3". I'd say a majority of the people who lift their trucks is because they like the way it looks, I know I do. I like our trucks lifted, I will go with a 3" but I love the way the 6" lifts look.

 

well us 4x2 reg cab guys without the locker would probly agree. unless your lifting for road clearance etc, it is a little poinless.

 

ive got the pre runner with a 3" lift an I love everything about it. I really have no use for 4wd. Ive done some pretty sweet hill climbs and my truck is amazing in the snow.

 

I agree on this too, ive never had to put mine on a lift to change it.

unless of course one of your back wheels is off the ground and you can't get traction with the other I don't like to think about that though.

The only thing I really wish I had was low range

 

Good stuff! I plan on getting TC Spindles eventually, I'd love to rock some 35s!
