Toyota did this over the years with the 1st gen, and almost around the same age in its life span it got a major facelift (2001).

Minor facelift in 98, Full Facelift in 2001.. Front bumper, headlights, grille, hood, Plus a bit of an interior update. Underneath it all, the 04 and 95 are fairly identical otherwise.

This is all I expect they are doing with the 2nd gen, just giving it an update to separate the new from old to boost new sales because the used market for these is so good. Id say the 2nd gen has at least 4 more years to go before a 3rd gen arrives at the dealership.

:frusty: At this point I'm about ready to just get the 2012 FJ............take away some visibility, a cramped backseat (I sit in the driver's seat so I don't care, lol), and obviously the bed and you have the Tacoma........with dual vvti (hp and mpg). The trail teams special editions are badass!!

I can't see myself getting the FJ Cruiser... I love the looks of it and have gone to the dealer in several occasions... but that cramped rear seating arrangement is not for me. My children are growing and it will be very unconformable for them in no time.

I am trying to decide between a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and the 2012 4x4 DC SB OffRoad Tacoma. The Tacoma is still our first choice, but that Jeep looks very tempting.

We drove a 2011 Tacoma (same configuration we want) and if the 2012 has the same underpinnings, it will be a blast to drive in the f**up roads back home. That Tacoma felt great driving through anything, where the Jeep was a rougher ride.

I have the exact same two vehicles in mind. If Toyota would put the updated V6 in the Tacoma I would be ready to purchase the minute it hits the lots. I will certainly be test driving the Jeep with the updated engine once available. The last engine was the biggest reason I was put off by the Wrangler.

My sis says she saw the redesign, she couldn't take any pics though. You can imagine why, she said they were very strict there at the Toyota plant. (She works where they manufacture the tundras and tacomas) Actually she delivers the parts to the assembly line.

She said it looks more rugged, other than that she couldn't really describe it. ...but she did say I "would want one", but too bad that my truck is all chopped up already.

For all that me and my (truck) baby have been through, I would never trader her in. :D

    ^^^Syncros sounds about right.

Does your sister accept bribes?! It's so frustrating knowing that the 2012 Tacoma is physically sitting somewhere and I can't find a way to see it. I've never been so nerve-racked by the want for a vehicle........lol

Well... I won't be buying a 2012 after all, as yesterday I purchased a 2003 w/ 39k miles (pics in the 1st Gen Forum)... but I still can't see to pull myself away from this thread. I feel I have to see this thru to completion! LOL! :)

I am sure now that I have bought a 1st gen a pic of the 2012 will come out any day... oh well... I am sure to like it, but a $12k-$15K savings buys a lot of peace on not having the "latest and greatest". :) Besides the 03 was exactly the config (xtracab, 4x4, 2.7L, 5spd) and color (white) I was gonna order a 2012 in... so how could I say no?:D

Still really want to see the damn 2012 though....

Here is the inventory report for one of the '12s that is expected to come to the dealer near me. The truck manager said they'd see it by Mid-Sept. but I'm sure he has no idea and it will be much later.

Anyways.....nothing new in terms of info except that this came from their inventory system at the dealer.

Thanks for the info vbprsx. Great work!

However it looks like my fears are confirmed that we will not get the dual VVT-i 4.0V6. BIG MISTAKE IMO by Toyota, I'm extremely frustrated.

Looks like Entune is confirmed, and am I correct in saying that it is part of the base model? So does that mean all Tacoma's will have Entune or at least all double cabs?

Also I noticed bigger rims (18") for the 2012 TRD Sport - P265/65R18. Currently I believe the Sports came with P265/65/17. Correction it states 17" Alloy Wheels with P265/65R18 tires so I guess I don't know what size rim and tires the '12 TRD Sport is getting.

Turn signals in the rear view mirrors is a nice touch too.

Still these nice creature comforts are not where Toyota should be spending its engineering time. INCREASE FUEL ECONOMY!

Yes, I'm frustrated to say the least!

I didn't even see the turn signals in the side mirrors, nor the 18" rims - good eye! [just saw your edit...I'm hoping they stick with 17's]

You are correct that the current 2nd Gen Sports come with 17" rims - I think 18's are a mistake, personally. It was hard enough to find a smooth riding M/T on my old '07 Sport with the 17's.

It does appear that the Entune is standard equipment but I highly doubt every DC Tacoma will be equipped with such.......doesn't make sense cost wise for Toyota. Again, this is just an early on spec sheet from the dealer's inventory so who knows how up-to-date it is or if any changes may come.

    Thanks for the Rep fellas!!
