I've searched but...4L but no 4H.

I've just had this truck a few days now and before I bought it, I did test the 4wd in the parking lot, but I only tested the 4L figuring that was enough.

So now I figured I'll throw her in 4H but it was a no go. I turn the switch, but no indicator light on the dash. I tried it at several speeds and even in neutrel but still no indicatir light.

I can put it in 4L and that is still working fine though. Any ideas?

 

Check the plugs on the transfer case that work you indicator lights,
one could be unplugged or something

If not that then test to see if you have power to your front wheels in both
4hi and 4lo.

 

Thanks, I'll check that out. BUT 4H isn't even engaging. I can feel it in 4L but when I switch to 4H nothing at all happens!

 

You do understand, that driving straight the 'feel' of H4 is the same as 2WD... L4 'feels' way different because it is a much, much lower gear like for crawling...

What will feel different in H4 is when you try to turn tightly on pavement... If there is resistance and a struggle, then you are indeed in H4!

 

Yeah-There is no way to get to 4L without 4H engaging. You aren't going to feel anything really different unless you try to make tight turns-

Do you get 1 light or 2 when Lo is engaged??

 

I could be wrong but I don't think you can even get into 4lo with getting in 4hi first. Like mentioned you were probably already in 4hi but never knew it since the light on the dash didn't light up.

 

my problem is the other way. I got 4H but no 4L,same thing light flashes and truck stays in 4H.

Try completely stopping and put it into neutral before switchinig to 4Lo

 

Thanks for the help guys. The only way I can get into 4L is to stop and put it in neutral. Then I switch it to 4H and nothing, not light no nothing. I can tell it's not engaging. Then I push in the switch and go to 4L and I get the 2 lights that come on, the truck and the Low.

I am familiar with the way a truck feels once the front tires are engaged, I had 2 older toyota 4x4's. I can definately tell that 4H is not engaging at all no matter if I try to get it in at 50 mph, 40 mph, 30 mph, 20 mph, from a dead stop or even from a dead stop in neutral.

I'll play with its ome more just in case I am wrong and it is actually engaging without the light, but it sure hasnt felt like it so far!

how do you know its not going into 4 hi? like what are you doing?

 

Maybe you should check the wiring, could be a bad switch

 

shove it up on some jacks hahahaha see if the wheels spin. that might be dangerous

 

Well when I put it in, (lol put it in) I slow down and I guess kinda give it gas while I swerve a little so I should feel it in the handeling and when I give it gas right?

I'll do that today!

To tell you the truth, I haven't noticed. I'll check that out too!

 

I thought mine was not working at first. Turned out that the bulb was out, because it did not light up. I had the dealer replace a total of 5 dash bulbs for the 4WD switch among other things. True, check to see if you feel resistance when cutting hard on the steering wheel, like the truck wants to hop. I would still want my 4wd indicators working anyways.
