I have a pardner pump. It is a copy of the 870 for about 150.00 less.

I've got the 870 for dove hunting, and it shoots very smooth compared to others for the price!

I'd probably feel more comfortable shooting a 410 in my house before a 12ga.

I prefer the safety position on the Mossbergs with a fixed, non-pistol grip stock which is how I roll.

You really can't go wrong with an 870 or the Mossberg.

Mossberg 590 or 500. They are both milspec I believe. At least I know that the 590 is for sure. Big 5 has them on sale for less than $300 a lot of the time. Cheap, reliable, durrable, relatively high round count (for a scatter gun)... what more could you want?

If money and/or weight is no object, KSG or Saiga 12 are pretty cool.

    Just my $0.02.

MK 12. If it's good enough for SEALS, it's good enough for me.

Uh... isn't. The Mk 12 an SPR? Pretty sure that SEALs use the mossberg 590 since it's what the navy buys the most of.

Spent a lot of time with both the 870 in different configurations and the benelli.

I am not a huge fan of the benelli and many of my co-workers dislike it as well. It is akward, kicks harder more prone to failure, requires more of a learning curve to operate properly of course is more expensive.

I can cycle the 870 about as fast as most can pull the trigger on a benelli its easy to handle simple in function reliable as heck and much more cost effective to get into. It is also easier to customize.

I am interested in the Saigas. I have never shot one but they look interesting and I have seen some recent write ups on customizing them.

I'll add to the Remington 870 crowd. I love my 870 Express. Very simple, very reliable.
I bought mine for $300 from a sheriff who outfitted it as his own home defense gun, but moved on to something else.
-pistol grip with quick feed stock (holds 4 rounds for storage with a spring release)
-surefire light built into pump handle with squeeze on/off
    -glow dot front sight
    -18" barrel
-extended round tube, I think it holds 7 now if I remember right

My brother has one, and I've been fairly impressed. Great semi auto shotty, nice to have magazine loads. However, for home defense, I don't think you would need to change out, and I'd rather have a more simplistic gun as my go-to.

i bought my mossberg 500 at a gun show for $175 then just like last month i found another one just like it at a pawn shop and i bought it OTD for $150! haha

so i have a skeet shooter and i sawed the barrel off and put a pistol grip on the other

originally i was looking at buying another barrel for the original one but could never find one under $100. so $50 more and bang i got 2 shottys

although i would love to have an 870 these mossbergs are so cheap and still reliable

I have a Saiga which is lots of fun, but for PD I like the 870 youth model.
Only 20 gauge but I think that's enough, and it's super lightweight and small so it's very easy to maneuver in tight quarters.

I have a taiga and I like it very much but I think it would make a better truck gun than a home defense gun. It's too long and too front heavy for in close.
