you know how they say that its someitme hard to notice a big difference when you add computer ram but you would notice alot more if you took it back out. well i took out the ziptie yesterday before i bring it in for the tsb. and wow. amazing the horrible difference.

Has anyone bought the part and installed it themselves yet? Anyone got to see up close what the differences are between the new part and old part?

There is no obvious difference other than a tighter fit between the two shafts. Basically, it appears that they did the zip tie fix with the right parts and tolerances this time.

Anyone have a link to the Canadian TSB 3413? I'd like to see and print a copy to bring to my dealership. I complained about the rattling for the last 2 servicing when I brought it in and they said it's not a problem on mine. The first time I didn't have the TSB number and last week I gave them the number but the mechanic said it wasn't it. Seems I have some play in my right side inner tie rod end. It's still not going to fix the rattle but at least it's under warranty. Guess I'll just complain next time around and see what they say then??

I'm out of warranty but the criss-cross zip-tie fix solved my offroad rattles 100%.

The really bad thing is that I have this exact same issue on my 2011 model and the damn TSB doesn't apply, yet. I had my truck at the dealer today to set up my install for the Leaf Spring TSB and I talked to them about this TSB as well. They drove the truck for awhile and said they couldn't feel anything. Of course, they were driving on a smooth road, not a washboard dirt road. They were very helpful with the leaf spring TSB, but I will have to keep looking to see if this one gets updated to cover the 2011 models.

My Toyota dealer has lots of speed bumps on their lot. So I just had a tech drive the truck over some a few times a bit little faster than a crawl and he noticed it. My truck is at the dealership right now getting this TSB fix done.

Does anyone think Toyota would cover mine @ 38 months/37,600 miles? I am going to take it to the dealer again this week. I've had my tires balanced & road force balanced many times, the clunking & shake still there on bumpy roads. Was told it was my old tires. I replaced them last month, same problem.

Im not crazy just a little obsessive like most of us are for quality, this is a problem damn it !

@charles08tacoma any write up paper work from when you took it to the dealer while within warranty period describing the issue might be enough for them to fix it. If not contact Toyota's corporate customer service center and explain it to them.

    Good luck.

When I got my truck back from getting this TSB done the steering wheel wasn't centered. So keep an eye out for that before you drive away.

Has any had this done or done it themselves out of warranty? Cost/time/difficulty?

I saw one guy said the part was less than $200. I'm curious what the cost of the dealer install would be. I have an '08 with 67000 miles on it, but I've noticed this sloppy clunky feel off road since I bought it.

    Subbed.

Well, yesterday the service manager ordered the parts for this TSB & told me warranty would cover since I had taken it in several times for clunking in the steering column as well as the steering wheel shake. Parts should be in some time today & I will get it in asap.

It's been about a year since I had this TSB done (p.5 of this thread), and it worked wonders...at first. I'm way out in nowhere living on all dirt roads right now, and it seems like the clunking is back to where it was before the TSB. I'm wondering if the bushing isn't just getting compressed over time. Might have to go back to the zip tie for a while...

Anyone else have the new intermediate shaft put in and then have the problem come back?

x2 Same here. Over a year and it's working great. I hit some very rough roads for many hours at a time and it's as solid as the day they installed the updated part. I'm very happy with this TSB and my truck. :)

Very odd. It's totally the same clunking as before. I'm going to pull the covers and see if that shaft has play.
