If you are a AAA miember, most AAA locations are doing the VIN window etching today for FREE . It usually cost about $300 to get done. ive gotten mine done today and it only took 15-20 mins (thats because i was their pretty early). Just thought I'd post this up because you cant go wrong getting this for free.

Tint won't affect it at all. They do it on the outside of the window.

This is definitely worthwhile. My Tacoma has it from the factory and I did get a break on my insurance because of it. :D

Yes the window is pretty easy to remove. The VIN numbers are etched below the door panel so they are not seen. Its basically another VIN location identifier for a stolen vehicle that is not too common and makes the car itself less valuable to try and part out.

Yeah I was just sayin that to the above posts about window breaking. That if somebody wanted to steal your windshield, It could be removed with no damage, and then they have access to everything.

This, I read actually here on TW that it makes it less desirable for a thief to steal the truck. The to cost of having to replace the windows is quite expensive. Making it harder and more expensive to sell. Kind of a cool idea, not really sure how effective it is, but the idea is nice.
