Yes, I should get side pieces, frame mounts, shackle mounts, and a few misc. pieces. I then provide a 60" 4x4 and the 2 square tube gussets. I will also incorporate a receiver for towing.

Indeed. Gonna learn to weld one of these days. It's a ways down the line right now though.

Feel free to chime in welders. Mig vs. Flux core= what did i not do correct with the flux core? I will get a stronger weld with the flux correct? And yes i reversed the polarity. This is with a small 110v welder

Not necessarily stronger with the flux core, however typically it does tend to burn a bit hotter which will equal better penetration. What machine did you get?? I may be able to give ya some pointers on the settings you'll want. Weld quality varies greatly with not only the settings but the technique you use while welding.

Hobart Handler 135. 110volt. Using 75/25 mix and .30 wire. Trying to write e's with the gun, and pulling the bead seams to work best for me. Settings with the mig -- Voltage=High as it would go,,, Speed= 3 and 4. With the flux= I didn't know what i was doing, Never used it before.

This is why I asked. And I assume that with a small welder, prep is critical

Prep is w any ..but if your using a flux wire it produces a lot more slag that has to be banged/wire brushed off. If you are doubleing back over yourself your trying to carry that good arc through rust basically. Constant speed and the Half moons or C's shape should straigten you out. Just keep fooling w it.

Yea if using flux core no mods is spot on. I prefer to use solid wire and gas as it is much cleaner, but with the size of your machine I'm not sure how well it will burn in 3/16 like that. It may have enough ass to get it done if you slow way down and take your time on it, giving it plenty of time to penetrate.

What about wire speed. And what's signs tell you to adjust.

A good starting point would be whatever the chart on the machine says, then adjust from there. It will vary depending on how fast or slow you move the gun. I suppose I must weld a touch faster than what they calculate because I always tend to set mine a bit higher than what they call for. If it's popping and cracking alot then you probably need to increase the speed a bit because it's not getting a good constant burn, the wire is burning off and then re-arching again.

Lol. Yea. There's actually quite a few decent videos on you tube showing different techniques. Could atleast give you a good idea of the different ways of doing it.
