Issues With Leveled '07 4x4

I recently leveled my 2007 TRD 4x4 Taco, and now am having some issues with front end vibrations. Nothing major, but I can feel it in the floor, pedals and steering wheel. Someone told me that anything lifted above 1.5" should have a differential drop kit installed. I see that I can get this kit from Toytec for about 30 bucks. Is this the one I would need for an 07 4x4? Also...Should I purchase a driveshaft carrier bearing drop kit?

 

If you didnt touch the rear end, you probably dont need the drive shaft carrier bearing drop.

As for your front end, sounds like you have the front diff needle bearing issue that many people complain about after lifting their vehicles. To test this, go test drive it. Flip it into 4 wheel drive (dont turn a bunch or drive in circles..) while driving and see if it magically stops vibrating after the 4 wheel drive light turns on. Then turn off 4 wheel drive and watch it come back. If this happens, you can either live with the vibration that will slowly get worse, or fight your dealer to replace you front Diff, or try and replace this bearing yourself. Its not easy, but not impossible either depending on your mechanical knowledge and tools.

You can try a diff drop first, but it didn't help me. Although I was at 2.5 inches.

 

Yes, actually got TWO alignments. Once when I got the 5100's and new tires installed. Then again about a week later after I noticed the vibration.

 

The wheels are balanced correctly ?

 

Do you just have the 5100's in the front and no lift in the rear? If you are 100% on a diff drop, I have one I could sell you.

OP, it's worth doing a search on this topic -- there's a lot of good info that you should read up on related to this. Search for my "Official front differential bearing vibe" thread -- I have all the most relevant threads on this topic linked from that thread.

This is assuming that it is in fact your front diff and the vibes go away when switched into 4hi, as radiantred indicated above.

 

When I put my lift on I had the same problem. My wheels were WAY off balance.

Good to hear. I think I'm going to try it, given that it's not too expensive. The kit is $30, which is totally doable. However, I'm not very mechanically inclined, and will have to pay to get this done professionally. Any idea how much that might run me? Estimate?

 

Buy mine, I'll send instructions, and can offer tech support. It will take you longer to get the skid plate off than it will to install the diff drop.

New tires...could have a balance issue. I would balance them again.

 

Sounds like the needle bearing... I had the same issue, and I was lucky I still have the 100k mile warrenty.. Dealer fixed it.

Try the CB Drop first though, it should help it with such a small lift...
If it doesnt, then check to see if it is the needle bearing.
Put it in 4x4 and if the noise and vibe goes away, the you know its indeed the needle bearing.
