I was changing spark plugs on my 2009 when I noticed a small oil leak behind the power steering pump.

I figured that it was just a matter of changing a valve cover gasket, but a quick search on TW proved that it was likely the timing chain cover.

I called the dealer and they said they had never heard of this problem in Canada. (except on Corollas)

When I went to the dealership I had copies of the US TSB (2008) and pictures of the problem from other users. I Also had print-outs from 2 other members that said they had this leak in 2009s. I have a feeling that this TSB will likely be extended to cover '09s.

Canadian members should be aware that there is no Canadian TSB for this problem- be proactive and get it checked before your 100k warranty expires.

The dealer quickly agreed that it was the timing chain cover and agreed to fix it under power train warranty. They are booking a full day to repair it on Monday.

Thanks to Toyota World members and to my Toyota Dealer for their awesome service department.

OZ- Check the other side too. I read 2 complaints of leaks on the alternator side. Might have just been from sloppy oil changes.

    Best of luck!

    Follow up:
Dealer put a tech on my truck for a day and a half. Fixed leak and left almost no trace that major work had been done. Only a few grease smudges left on engine.

They topped up oil with synthetic and added new long life coolant. No charge to me.:)

They did not chop my gas pedal as per request.

I could not be more impressed with the service!!!:woot:
