    I see a fly reel :). In the process of building 3 loomis blanks I've had for some time now. Any suggestions on a reel that's not too pricy? [(2) 5 weight rods and (1) 9 weight]

    Yes you do. I just started fly fishin a couple years ago with a hand-me-down rod and reel. Got a new Pfleuger rod last year and then just bought that new cheap Cabela's reel before this season. I like it so far. Just a cheap $30 reel. It's good for a cheap reel. If I had a Loomis rod I'd probably go a little more expensive. It's hard to go wrong with an Orvis reel.

    neglect, mostly.
    yeah those Orvis reels are sweet. though in all honesty I've never been able to see the point in forking over a lot if dough on a fly reel. the one I use is just the walmart shakespeare combo. When you think about it, what's the point? I mean you don't cast with it and you don't reel in with it, so as long as the rod doesn't break and the line doesnt tangle, the cheaper the better in my opinion. . . . On the other hand, I will buy a nice fly if it catches my eye. I'd love to tie my own someday.

    Exactly the reason I went with a $30 Cabela's reel. haha. The only time it'll ever really get used is when I hang into a hog and have to get it on the reel.

    I'd like to tie my own flies...but the more I tie, the less I fish. Haha. I thought about learning and just tying in the winter, but I do a lot of fishin in the winter when I'm not huntin. Catch a lot of big browns during the colder months. I've got a few friends who tie and they either give them to me or sell em to me 12 for $10.
