ATF Form help. SBR & silencer build

I need some help figuring out what forms/stamps/licenses I need for the following build.
I would like to take a GSG-5PK add a stock and silencer, just like this:


I believe I need a form and a $200 stamp to purchase the silencer. (I live in Arkansas, so both the SBR & silencer is legal).

What do I need to have an SBR? Class III? How long would that take? How much is that? How often would it need to be renewed? If I did have to have a class III, could I go full auto on it?

My back-up plan is just to purchase a GSG-5 & silencer, but I am interested it what all I can do with the pistol.

two tax stamps. one for the SBR and one for the supressor. So $400 total in stamps.
no class III, class III is a license that dealers get in order to buy and sell these items.

Once you fill out your forms and have them approved that is it, no more fees and no renewals. Just a one time pain in the ass...haha

adding a stock or a front grip to a pistol also requires some sort of tax stamp for it if i remember correctly.

Wrong you only need one tax stamp per weapon. When you get the tax stamp make a copy of it and keep it in the gun case that you will carry that weapon in.

 

I dont know if you missunderstood or what but the weapon, being an SBR, will need one stamp. the suppressor will need its own stamp since it has its own serial number. SBR + suppressor = 2 stamps.

 

Say the Rifle is full auto, SBR and Supressed you only need one tax stamp.

if you set up a trust you will get approval faster and will not have to be approved by your sheriff....

 

as far as the pistol goes adding a front grip or a stock to it will make it a AOW (any other weapon) and need a stamp. a pistol is not an sbr though

this is another route but if your local sheriff will sign off I would go the form 1 route. setting up a trust involves yearly fees. Personally I would rather just pay the one time fee and be done with it.

 

Yep this, is correct. Now you can use the can on other firearms, cause it's the can not the gun that's taxed. Another great source for info is silencersmithing forum.com ton of guys willing to help out any way they can.

doesnt sound like it. the suppressor is totaly separate from the gun, having its own serial number, needing its own form 1.

That is incorrect.

The tax stamp for the suppressor is for the suppressor and is good for whatever weapon you hang the suppressor on.

The tax stamp for the weapon is a stamp to buy or build an SBR. If you had no buttstock on the weapon you wouldn't need one because you could call it a pistol.

The form for both of these is the BATFE Form 4. I do not know how you intend to purchase the firearm but for the suppressor PROBABLY you will have to go to your dealer and plop down a deposit since to fill out the form you need a serial number. Then the dealer will hold "your" suppressor until you get back the approved tax stamp at which time you will pay the balance of the cost of the suppressor and be good to go. If you are buying a complete gun it is probably much the same for the SBR.

The thing to keep in mind is that if you have this stuff out at the range you MUST keep a copy of the tax stamp with it at all times. DO NOT use the original. Make a copy, laminate it and keep the COPY with the weapon and the suppressor. Put the original in a safe.

Depending on where you live and the chief law enforcement official in your area (chief of police, county sheriff, whatever it is in your AO) you may need to look at getting a living trust. I don't know that much about that but some chief law enforcement officers won't sign form 4s. If you find a dealer in your area he or she will almost certainly know how to go about it and if a living trust is required.

I looked into this stuff about a year ago as well...
Although not in your original question, some extra info:
Must be locked in when not in use = have a safe.
May be used by others, but only in your presence. Can't be loaned to a buddy.
Extra paperwork and written approval needed from the feds to cross a state line with it, so think about moving and travelling plans in your future.

 

just for info, if your ballin' enough to afford a FA, barrel length does not matter on FA's.

BUT if you put a FA sear in a SBR that will require a new stamp, on the other hand, if your put a SB on a FA no extra stamp needed

This is all true, but I think, you can't build a FA, unless you have a class III, now you can own one (if you can afford) without a class III, but must be built before 1986. That's why the the old ones demand so much money.
