4x4 Garage Mud Terrain Review

If you have not seen it, 4x4 Garage did a pretty thorough review of 10 mud terrain tires. They were graded on road noise, tread design, street manners, sidewall stiffness, hardness of compound, offroad ability etc..

Commenting on the Hankook they said "we didnt expect to see the Dynapro MT emerge on top"

"But at the end of this test, this tire was the clear winner"

THey gave the pitbull rockers the second best mud terrain rating and even repeated the tests with the pitbulls vs the hankooks because they wanted to confirm it wasnt a fluke. In the second test they said " the hankooks outperformed the rockers, this time beyond a doubt"

Its a pretty good write up if you get a chance to take a look. It appears they are baffled and never expected the hankooks to be close to winning but they said not only was it the best in the mud, it was also quiet and handled great on the street.

It just doesnt look as pretty as the other contenders but performance was unrivled. I was pretty shocked at the rankings of some of the tires myself.

The KM2's were by far the lighest and were I think the second least expensive of all the entries.

Yeah the hankooks have been good mt tires for years. I used to deliver tires and the hankook mts were always my fav.

 

i find it hard to believe the km2 came out in 8th place? and i'm sorry but, the goodyear kevlar mtr is the best mud tire probably ever they just do everything right they are excellent tires.

i'm rolling on new nitto m/t trail grapplers and i love'em, but i firmly believe the km2 is at least as good if not better i don't buy it.

 

Personal experience that the Hankooks arent that great.

 

Cmon fellas, 4x4 Garage did the review. It's highly indisputable. Hankooks came out on top.

 

You say they gave the Pitbull Rockers the second highest rating, but it says they're sixth?

 

As I stated they tested the tires in multiple categories, their ability to mud was only one of the categories. The pitbulls were second in their ability to mud but came in 6th because they didnt fair as well in other catagories as the 5 tires that beat them.

They re-tested the hankooks against the pitbulls because even they could not believe the Hankooks were number one in their ability to mud and they said the victory was deccisive in favor of the hankooks.

I was surprised at the KM2's ranking myself but it is what it is. In reading the article it appeared they went to great lengths to make this as fair and scientific as possible.

Also in the link provided above for tire reviews, there is a section which shows you the least popular tires given a thumbs down rating and the goodyear mtr's are on that list so for those who think so highly of them, it appears a butload of people dont http://www.offroaders.com/reviewbox...&perpage=12&sort=5&stype=&limit=&cat=3&ppuser=

As with anything your own opinion on what you like or dont like and what works for you is whats important.

I prefer the KM2s hands down, but my next MT will be the MTR Kevlar for the terrain I run

 

WOW. Hankooks FTW. To bad they don't come in 255/85.

 

Looking into new tires right now, and well I'm hit a snag...I've decided either Goodyear MTR Kevlars or Mickey Thompson MTZ's...According to this they're ranked 2,3

I can get them for the same price (+ or - a few $$$) and can get the MTZ shipped for free which is a nice bonus, so really what I'm asking is, are the MTR's that superior to the MTZ's?!

Highest I've had on the list is the Mickey MTZs, and I'm not surprised they are near the top of the pack. I was very impressed with them.

 

dont even have Toyo's , I know they are better than nitto's

 

Around here Toyo's are pretty common tire on Jacked up Diesels and what not, but I've found that they're very heavy and would be too heavy for a smaller truck!
