    Hey guys

Looking for some help/tips with getting my dogs to stop barking whenever they feel like it or hear the smallest noise. We just bought a house in March and I guess the neighbors are getting sick of them barking. Last night my gf called me furious that one of the neighbors came over and demanded we doing something about the dogs barking. I have 3 small jack a pugs. They love to bark at anything - just looking for any tips or advise to try to control this. Thanks in advance!

they make bark collars that will give them increasing shocks if they keep barking. We used it on one of our Boxers that was that way. He quit barking pretty quick. Just make sure they don't realize that the collar is what is doing it, or they will only learn to not bark when the collar is on.

Either get rid of the dogs or tell your neighbor to go to hell. If he is anything like my neighbor he is to scared to say anything to you so he waited until it was just your wife there. My neighbor cussed my wife about my dogs when I was at work one day. When I got home and confronted him about it, he acted like a little bitch.

Or you can spend some time actually training the dogs before you just go ahead and start shocking the hell out of them.... Not opposed to shock collars, only the misuse of them. They're not going to train your dog for you, you still need to put some time in.

Sounds silly but watch, "It's me or the dog" on Animal Planet, almost every episode they deal with nuissance barking. Don't give them attention when they bark and if they're barking, give them a treat when they stop for 30 seconds. Absolutely ignore them when they are barking, the attention they get when they bark encourages them to keep doing so, even if it's bad attention, they are still getting you to pay attention to them. Get the dogs excercised, a tired dog will be less anxious and less likely to bark. It'll be tough with the Jack Russells but the pug should be easy to tire out. If you're not used to training a dog, it might be worth your while to go to a dog trainer or have one come to you. Group training classes aren't too expensive, usually like $25 - $50/class (obviously rates can vary quite a bit). Good luck!

Do you know the name of the device/website you ordered from? I'd prefer to try something like this before going to collar route.

Well definitely NOT getting rid of my dogs so guess the neighbors are screwed. I think the same thing happened with me too because the second I pulled up to the house the neighbors were sitting on the porch and within seconds of me getting out of the truck they were inside. I'm definitely not trying to be a dick and my dogs get on my nerves when they bark a lot but there dogs. Best part was when they said the dogs bark all day while my gf is at work - little do they know I work from home so I know thats bullshit.

I am all for the training idea, these scenarios work. Or just take your dogs on a long walk. Busy dogs can't bark.

It is the Dog Silencer Pro from Good Life.

Where I live if your dog barks and the neighbors complain to the city you receive very large fines. I talked to my neighbor one night at 10PM when I rang his door bell and then before calling the city thought I would pay $100 of my own money to shut his dogs up. For those of you that own dogs, try to respect your neighbors vs. acting all tough that you are being a jerk - Just my thoughts.

Thanks for all the input/suggestions guys -

Pugga - I've just read some of those exact tips online which I plan to try. I don't exactly agree with shock collars either so want to try an alternative method before it gets to that.

Was just trying to see if anyone else had any issue similar to this and what may have resolved it.

Thanks! I was just on that site a little earlier. I'll have to check it out again and maybe get on ordering that. Hope it works.

Yeah for training your own dog it also will just make a loud sound without using the sonic noise. We tried it with a friends dog and it seemed to have some effect, but who knows if it will last long term. All of my neighbors are complaining about these dogs, so we may just have to report it, I hope to keep things friendly though.

Good luck, it can be frustrating and nerve racking, especially with Jack Russells. Terriers are notoriously stubborn and, since they are smart dogs, are very tough to train. Keep them excercised, it really does work wonders for training and is better for their health also. My lab is an absolute spaz if we miss a day taking him to the park, but if he's tired he's very calm and will quietly lay down and chew on a bone. Best of luck!

No I actually train my dogs to bark on command (bark and hold). They also bark when someone is in my yard or driveway. You cant sneak up on me or my house that way.

I have a German Shepherd that would bark all the time also. We went to Petsmart or one of them pet sotres and bought a citronella collar. it can be used anytime. It is remote operated and whenever you push the button it sprays citronella into the dogs face. My dog learned pretty quick and is now one of the quietest around.

Isn’t it against the law to have dogs barking continuously and disturb your neighbors?

Amen to that, especially if you own the place and intend to stay there for a while.
