Cooper Discoverer AT3

Is anyone running the Cooper Discoverer AT3's? Price seems reasonable and tread seems decent, just wondering if any one has likes / dislikes with these bad larry's.

I just ordered some other tires but seriously considered these.
Looks like a great AT to me. Not as aggressive or impress your buddies "rugged looking" as others, but much more realistic for the mild or occasional off-roader.

 

Which tire did you go with instead?

Agreed on Cooper having a less aggressive tread. I'd love to run a mud terrain or at minimum BFG AT, but given the truck is more of a daily commuter than anything else and I'm saving for a house down-payment, I think this tire would be a more practical option.

 

I drive lots of highway miles but also drive on crushed gravel roads all day at work, which are very hard on tires and lots of people get flats out here, so I wanted the Cooper S/T Maxx. Discount Tire didn't have a part number for it in their system yet though, so I got Duratracs instead, which I've had before and held up well on the rock, and also are great in the snow, since we have moderate winters here.

OP, I started that other thread and there are some links to reviews myself and other members found that were helpful. I should have mine mounted up by the weekend and will update that thread with pics and a review. I'm currently running the Discoverer ATR and the AT3's are supposed to be quieter and smoother while having better traction off road (seems contradictory, I know). They supposedly changed the rubber compound from the ATR and it seems to be rated pretty well. Unfortunately they've only been out since April so not many people have a ton of miles on them yet.

FWIW, every Cooper tire I've every owned has performed incredibly well in the wet and snow which is why I keep going back. I was very impressed with the ATR (right up until they had to be warrantied) and am excited to get the AT3 mounted up.

 

I've heard good things about the Duratracs, and have a couple friends that use them in the winter plowing snow; they swear by'm. I would buy in if I wasn't living in the city and working an office puss job a few miles down the road.

I should have caught the post already up about the AT3's. I was hoping the river mud guy would post an update as the tires wore down, but it appears we're SOL on that one. It's good to hear you've had good luck with the coopers though. My father had 5 service vans for our burner technician service, and he had exceptional luck with the Coopers.

Let me know of your initial test drive on the new rubber. I have a screw through one or my tires right now so I'm looking buy treads ASAP.

 

I'm not sure if you have shops where you are that price match, but I did some searching on mine and Treaddepot was the cheapest. We have Townfair tire down here and they'll match any price you can find with exception to Ebay type websites. They just have to be able to verify it. Treaddepot was $140/tire + $20 for shipping so I'm getting my set for $160/each + mounting. I hope to have mine in by Saturday if Townfair finally gets their orders straight!

 

Found the tires on tirecrawler.com for $126/tire + $130 total for shipping. Went to tire warehouse and they're willing to match the price (and beat it by a couple bucks) so I think I'll go with it; $740 out the door seems somewhat reasonable.

x2! I have had the ATRs on my 4runner and currently STCs on the taco now. Great tires. The stc's are getting worn now (56k) and getting a bit noisy but hell the have 57k on them! I'm interested to hear how the At3 are doing since that may be my next tire.

 

If Tire Warehouse is a local place, it sounds like you're getting screwed.

You said you found them online for $126/tire - if you have Tire Warehouse match that...you're only looking at $504 before taxes...

Maybe I missed something but $740 sounds like way too much.

I have had 265/75/R16 AT3s on for just under 2,000 miles. They look aggressive without being "rednecky," don't buzz down the highway, and are reasonably priced. So far, I'm happy with them.

 

Usually those places will match like services so they match the tire cost + shipping. At least that's how Townfair Tire works. I found the cheapest internet price I could find (shipped to me) and they match that and then you have to pay them to mount and balance.

FWIW, 265/70R17, Treaddepot is still cheapest I've been able to find. Tirecrawler advertises dirt cheap prices but shipping kills the deal for the size I need.

 

Interesting, I would try and haggle them on reducing the amount they match for the shipping.

I guess it makes sense that they would do that, though.

I tried . Their argument is the internet stores have no real staff to pay for and no stocking fees. When you order from them, they have the warehouse send you tires direct so they are merely a pass through. If I could find a store like that where I could go in person and pick it up for $125/tire, Townfair said they would match the price. Made sense, at least to me.

 

It makes perfect sense - I'm just the cheap asshole that makes the people behind him wait in line while I try to negotiate something that a normal person wouldn't even bother with.

I hear ya, especially with tires these days. Townfair's normal price, if you were to walk in and say, "I want AT3's", is $225/tire + mounting and balancing . So if they're going to advertise price matching, damn right I'm going to shop around for the best price possible!

 

You can get BFG A/T's for that price!

I wish there was a distribution center for one of these places closer to me - they are all in Georgia...closest is like 3 hours from me...not sure it'd be worth it when shipping is only about $90-$100.

That price is out of control. TireCrawler.com is advertising 265/75/16 for about $128/tire + shipping (about $130 to Maine). Townfair is on crack.

 

Agreed, their price matching is the only reason I go there. That and free tire rotation for the life of the tires, free winter tire change over (great for my gf's car since she has a set of studded snows) and their rates on alignments aren't too bad. But if you go in there and pay retail, you're going to get absolutely raped by them.

So... you get your AT3's yet, mine are on order because the shop never clicked the 'confirm' button on my order?
