Hey guys need some help on a few things. I have had my 02 quad cab taco for a month now and I am only averaging about 14mpg. This is mostly highway driving! I have done the usual things, changed air filter, checked tire pressure, and changed oil. After I changed the oil to RP 5w 30 my average went up to 15mpg. Any ideas what is causing the bad gas mileage? Second, checked the oil tonight and I am already down one quart from my oil change two weeks ago. No leaks. This was the first time that I have run synthetic, so could that be the cause of this? Last, I have noticed that when in 4 wheel drive, if I reverse or drive forward slowly with my steering wheel at lock right or left, there seems to be some binding (truck doesnt want to move). Is this normal, I dont have a lift on my taco, or bigger wheels or tires. Any help appreciated, thanks guys....

if you have the v6.....thats about right. switch over to synthetic oil, and switch the transfer case and diffs over to synthetic oil too.....and give the truck some break in time.....the mileage will definitely get better.

my mpgs dropped a ton with the cold+ winter gas. I used to get around 15 in winter with the 4 runner that had the same engine. then it would shoot to 18 and 19 in summer.

I seafoamed my engine a few weeks ago, and I was planning on seeing what mileage im getting now, but I got injured at work and havn't drove my baby in 3 weeks. I was getting about 15mpg. So if I hope the seafoam helped me out. If not I guess i'll try changing diffs, and Trans. case to synthetic.
