Toyota's paint sucks

so what are you guys doing about the bazillion paint chips?


just rediculous how easy this stuff chips off, my old 1998 blazer has maybe 2 or 3 and i was running offset rims and constantly sprayed the sides with dirt and mud and the paint wouldnt even scratch, let alone chip.

guess toyota assumed these trucks would never see dirt or mud?

I went ahead and bought some SWB touch up paint and use that every here and there when I think it's really needed.

 

It's all newer vehicles actually. Since they went water based from oil this stuff chips if you spit on it.

 

I get pelted with high speed road dust, extreme wear and tear is expected

but seriously, I should take a picture of my body kit, theres one spot specifically the front tires hit dirt into, it's already through the clear coat the paint the primer and starting into the plastic

 

ok, so what do you do if the chip has started to rust? obviously you would sand it, but what do you use? ive seen something along the lines of a sanding pen....anyone use those?

also do you clear coat a chip repair?

 

I noticed yesterday the seams at the front edge of the rear fenders are getting the rust colored line. They will need some attention.

Also, the paint used for plastic does not wash clean. So far the only wax or cleaner to make the grill white, or the other plastic painted stuff white again is ToyoGard cleaner polish.

just have keep them clean and wax them more often, especially not garaged. My new truck's paint looks good so far, (garaged kept) JUST a few chips along the bottom. I had a older, non clear coat Toyota and the paint came off every time I waxed it, (Showed on the towels) but it still kept shinning as long as I kept up on the wax.

 

tough to wax here with no garage most of the year, it sucks.
