the slider comes welded together, all you have to do is weld the plates to the legs, then the legs to the sliders.

It makes for a more custom fit for each truck...if you want the sliders horizontal to the ground or angled up, weld them that way. if you want them closer into the body, weld them that way. etc etc.

Any tips or things I should do to prepare the surface of the frame before welding? I don't want the frame plates welded to the frame becoming a rust problem later on. I saw in an earlier post that removing the paint is necessary, but that exposes the metal directly to the elements. Will the welded frame plate seal it off so rust won't be an issue or is there something else I should do to help prevent rust?

I have no problem admitting that I am the King of Dumb Questions.

    That said.

    What exactly is the "kickout?"

The part that flares out (bottom left in this pic below)?

Nothing like a good accident to get some mods out of. :D

These slider kits are great, inexpensive and super durable. If you know someone that can weld, these are a great fit. Adam also offers a bolt on kit that doesn't require welding at all. I love both kits. I'm running the bolt on kit now.

Edit: just saw you have a 1998. Sorry, No bolton kit for you.

I wouldn't want the bolt on anyway.

My best friend is a welder but super busy with his own business. But I'm sure there are plenty of hunger welders around here.

Sorry for taking so long getting back to you about this. We've been busting to get caught up and we're finally there.

We normally only grind paint about 1.5 inches around where the weld will be to minimize exposure. You should also repaint right away. If there is a factory hole in the frame behind the plate you may want to fill it in before welding on the sliders.

    Yep you've got it.
