Double Din Nav System

Looking for opinions on a good double din nav system that has good functionality with iPhone. Post what ya got and what works well

 

i have an avic d3 for sale nav, bluetooth, xm, dvd/cd

 

yea I shop there but just looking to see what others are using.

 

The top players in the sub $1k market seem to be Pioneer and Kenwood. Pioneer has a better GUI, but Kenwood has Garmin nav. In the end, the Garmin has just been too big of a detail to overlook. My last two head units have been Kenwood, first the DNX6140 and now the DNX6160.

Have you used the iPod controls with the DNX6160? If so how is playlist navigation? Thanks

I should be installing it this week, so no, I have not used it. on the 6140 it was a little clunky, but it did work. I navigate my ipod only using playlists too, but I found that I left it on random most of the time in my car.

My understanding is that the ipod navigation on the Pioneer is a step better than the Kenwood.

 

IMO, the pioneer blows the Kenwood out of the water, as far as iPod integration. Beyond that, personal preference. I dont need nav often enough to make that a priority, so for me, it was about ease of use, support, and GUI. Pioneer won.

For the record, I rarely use playlists, and often listen to an entire album, so I sort by artist, and/or album, so it may be different for you.

If I needed the nav all the time, Kenwood would win. Disappointed with Alpine lately...

I would find a local shop and take your phone in, most will have em set up for you to play with.

Playing with Pioneer's AppRadio...highly integrated with iPhone. A bit quirky in some regards and still getting used to the user interface. $399, no integrated navigation package, but comes with a GPS antenna. Relies on the iPhone for mapping software, which actually turns out to be cheaper than a fully nav-ready unit.
