will the dealership remove my rear headrests?

I tried taking them out myself today following a thread on toyotanation.com but could not do it. Idk why something like this has to be so difficult, I remember the days when you just pushed a button and they pulled right out, not anymore though. So would the dealership take them out or would they lecture me for an hour on why I need them in there for safety? Thanks for the help guys.

 

You push in a button and then pull out....atleast that's how it is on my 07.....

I have a 2011 access cab and i know your pain, haha. I took mine out in my school's parking lot, but when i pulled off the back wall, i broke about 7 clips, so i drove to the dealership with my back wall still off, bought the clips for about 8 bucks, unbolted the headrests, and put the wall back on. It was a pain in the butt, but it was worth it. I don't think the dealer would take em off for you though. worth a shot though

You DO in fact press the button and they come right out. Is there some mystery model that doesn't have this common feature?

 

only double cabs can do that, not access cabs

 

in the 2011 access cabs (and i think a couple years before too) the back seats have headrests that fold down. but some people (myself included) dont like them cuz they don't fold down all the way and they're just downright annoying sometimes. But the posts for the headrests are welded to a plate that's bolted to the back wall (don't ask me why. It's retarded) So you have to remove the plastic back wall, and unbolt the headrests.

You can do it, and without any special tools. I did not break any of the clips, but some came off with the panel. Once you know where the clips are, its a breeze. I have the subwoofer which I had to take off as well, but it was only two bolts and the plug. Its soo much better now, especially the view out the rear window. I would suggest some sound barrier material to install while the panel is off.

Your question about the dealer doing it. I would bet not as it is a safety hazard for the rear passenger. Probably why they bolted them in. Keep in mind, if you do this mod, and have a accident with a rear passenger with injuries, and they discover you uninstalled the head rests I am sure they will come after you as well.
