    probably not...they are still not hte norm now and they are costly so many contractors will not put them in houses. there are two types. either the surge protector will be built into the breaker box OR there are separate units that you have have wired into an existing box. if your area is prone to lots of lightning storms it would be a good idea to have one! search for 'whole house surge protectors' Same goes for you Steph! As long as you're replacing things you might want to see what it would cost to have one installed at your house too!

    a quality surge protector is $160-$200 and takes about a 1/2 hour to install, cheaper ones are available but they're basically one time use then it's useless. the majority of contractors do not install them unless the customer asks for one because it is not required by code, not in Canada anyway.

    Yes. Unfortunately I had to claim it. :( But I'm claiming my roof leak now too.

    Yes - I'm happy to have my house. :woot: But sadly, I am just now finally packing my stuff up at the station to go home. Got two window units in the living room had the temp down to 82 before I left. I'm having someone pay me back a half shift tomorrow so I'm not going in til 9pm. I have to finish assessing the whole house to see if I have any other damage. Sooooo needless to say, I will not make it to the dealership today. :( :( :(
