So Scott and I went up the 17 around 11 am to Bloody Basin Rd, started out really nice and flat for some quick paced driving. We started heading down to sheeps bridge from the North and it was rocky and a semi time consuming drive.

We made out way down and enjoyed the lake and river a little bit. It was time to go and I saw many trails shooting from the river and people on the other side. I asked one of the campers there how to get to the other side. Well 2 ways, cross the river right there OR when your near Horseshoe Lake there is a road from there as well. I was told that the trip after crossing the river at Sheeps Bridge would save us about 1.5-2 hours (ended up yes and no on that).

So we try to cross the river at Sheeps Bridge. I got stuck and Scott got stuck, luckily people were on that side to help us out. The terrain of the river and the sides was like \___/ not just a flat crossing. It was maybe 10-15 yards wide with a average depth of 2-3' (river was flowing with a current, nothing crazy but the trucks noticed the current when we were in the middle). I went first got stuck. Since I have the fenders and removed the fender resonator, I have a huge hole for the intake to suck in water, I shoved my t-shirt in the hole and thank god I did. When I got out of the truck after getting stuck the shirt was absolutely drenched unbelievably. Scott took his turn. Started to cross and got stuck in the same spot BUT he was unfortunate enough to digest some water through the intake into the engine, truck died instantly on him. Cranked it and wouldnt start so we let it sit for about 30 minutes or so and tried again. After cranking it for a bit, luckily enough it started and water shot from the open intake (took off the intake and removed the filter to allow it to dry).

Well we get him unstuck and get on our way back. Drive was nice and yes it saved us a whole lot of driving time wise and rough slow terrain. So we approach some river rock and come to find out, right in front of us is a 25-30 yard wide river. We walked the river before thinking of heading into it...and....well it ended up being about fender deep on my truck, 2.5-3.5 ft deep across the river. After what happened early with a shorter and much more shallow distance, I said to hell with this. Left my truck there and went with Scott to do some recon. We ended up finding a road that took us to the Horseshoe Lake Dam. I told Scott to take me back to my truck and that we were going to leave our trucks at the dam and try to find a ride home and get the Park Rangers to open up the Dam gates to allow us to cross.

After being out in the rain downpour and walking for 3 miles, we get cell reception and send out for someone to pick us up. We get picked up an hour later, now being about 8 pm.

Blah Blah Blah we get home

I called the Forest Service this morning to get some help. I told them the story and they met us over there and opened up the gate on the Dam and Scott and I drove our trucks over it and now were at home with our trucks.

Nice dude.. had a similar experience out there my junior year in highschool. Drove my lifted wrangler out there with a friend and his shitty car. Lol we were going camping and went down the same way from the north side. Starts easy, then gets rocky and slower. It started raining and got real buddy. My friend said to go ahead and set up camp. On the way my engine started over heating because the idler pulley was going out. Had to put it in neutral and coast down the ridges and switchbacks. We got to the last downhill part coming to the river. It had rained so hard that it had washed part of the trail out at an angle. It was night time now and couldnt see very well. I hit the brakes too late and went of tue edge of the washed out part. the front right tire took all the impact and broke my axle mount/support. Shoved the tire into the back of my fender. We set uo camp right there on the trail. Our friends in the car finally walked into camp two hours later with everything from the car. His cars brakes went out going down the switch backs so he had to crash it Into the side of the mountain to keep from going over. we passed out, woke up, and enjoyed the next day at the river and the hot springs. we were supposed to be back later that day and i had to be at work that night. We obviously didn't make It back so my mom back home called in for me. We didnt have cell phone service out there. We eventually packed up, and I drove the jeep in reverse for about a mile or two up the switchbacks. We made it back to our buddies car which was totalled into the cliff. Loaded up the keep with his stuff and continued driving.. in reverse.. we made it another mile before the pulley shreaded my serpentine belt. Dead In the water.. we had no phone service, no water, food, etc. We hiked I'm top of a near by mountain and managed to get one bar and get a call out. All I was able to say was, jeep is dead, we are stuck. My mom called the local news chopper hat was doing a story on the flash flood that had just went through and trapped us. They contacted the search and rescue and started looking for us. They eventually found us and airvac'd us out. We were flown all the way out to bloody basin where the paramedics, police, and news crews were waiting for us. We ended up on the news that evening. Lol had to go back out and tow the jeep back. Left my friends car there. was interesting for sure.

Oli, let's go back out man. Lol I havent been out since. Glad you guys are ok and you got the trucks out. It is cool out there for sure.
