didn't spend much time in it, but what time i did, i made count.

i'd rather it be the idler since that makes it a little less urgent. i'll check it out more tomorrow, maybe take some stuff appart, and give toyota a call to get some prices.

from what i have read on here, the idler pulley does not like water whatsoever and it is usually a quick fix.

we have more than one? i've spent countless hours on just about every part of the truck, except for the engine. never really touched it except for maintenance.

    that's good news.

idler pulley. mine did the same thing. You can try and clean them out and repack them with grease but if its shot than theres nothing u can do. They are also cheap to replace. I want to say around $30. If ur still in town come up to jax and i will help u fix it.

Yeah my upper one went out also. You have 2 single bearing and 2 double bearings if you count the tensioner.

Check rock auto. They have a few different ones. The 2 upper ones r next to the alt and the power steering usually those go bad first. I would look at the one next to the power steering first.

To clean them take it belt off the tensioner and than take the pulley off. Should be a 19mm and than you look at the front and it should be a red rubber diaphram. Take a small jewlers flat head and gently pry up around the outside edge. It has a small alluminum disk in there so if you bend it, which you will, no big deal you can bend it back. Once you get the rubber part off just take it and spray a shit load of brake cleaner in there to get all the old grease and crap out than look at the bearing and make sure its not broken or anything. Than just repack it with your favorite grease and reinstall and try it out. If it still makes the noise after you have cleaned them all out than you will have to replace the one thats bad. Mine i could tell the sound was coming from the one side and thats the one i stated with.
