Okay my FJ peeps, I need to know who has an FJ and small children?

I totalled my wife's Camry yesterday, and I know it is not practical at all for a family car, but help me justify it.

Does anyone have small children in car seats? (I have a 2yo in a forward facing seat and a 6 month in rear facing)
Can you fit 2 car seats? Or should I not even bother?

I have a DC that fits us just fine, but if we got the FJ my Taco would become the main family ride and the FJ would need to be able to carry us all.

We will probably go with another Camry or older Sequoia for the 3rd row, but I a dreaming right now and hope someone can help me turn it into reality. Pictures of your set up would be nice. I know it is not meant to be a family wagon, but a boy can dream can't he?

^^^ I've read about a guy that got rid of his FJ because he destroyed his elbow trying to get kids in and out of a car seat in the back. I could understand how it would happen. That opening is narrow even with the suicide doors open and the seat is set pretty far back from the opening.

If your kids are old enough to climb into the seat themselves, you might be okay. But it would likely be a bitch with younger ones.

5th Generation 4Runners can do pretty much everything an FJ can. And you can ride more comfortably with kids in the back seat. That's my future plan.

We didnt get an FJ for this reason. the child carrier would not fit through the rear door easily. Now that our kid is 15 months old im sure it would be fine since he is forward facing but I would say go check them out at the dealership and see if it would be practical. Let your wife try and get that infant carrier into the base, if she cant do it then I would advise against the fj for a little while.

The 4 runners are sweet vehicles though. We really wanted one but could not afford one at the time. You can get 4th gen ones for pretty good prices now.

If you know it's not pratical and you're trying to get it justified you won't be happy with it in the long run. Sure the novelty of it initially will be cool but after a few years you'll regret getting it... I did. My son was 2 1/2 when we got our FJ Cruiser. It wasn't too bad getting him in and out of the car seat and as he got older he got pretty good at getting in by himself. What he got tired of was the little airline windows on the suicide doors. We traded it in for a 4Runner and have been very happy with it. The 4Runner is the same thing as the FJ just built on a longer frame. I'd look into the SR5 4Runners and go from there.
Depending on which 4Runner you get. I think the Trail Edition 4Runner has a leg up on the FJC's.

    I did
But we had a intercooler sprayer resi from a subaru STI in the garage and it fit in the empty spot in front of the air box. Just spliced the wires and ran the hoses and it worked like a charm. Had to add the second motor for the rear sprayer too. Havent made a bracket, but since it sits snug in the engine bay, just wrapped a few zip ties around it lol
    Holding up just fine

I figured as much, thanks for all the input. I know it is very impractical, just love em! I guess I'll keep dreaming.

It is as easy as buying the atrac switch and plugging it in. (fj's w/locker come pre wired for atrac. Possibly models w/out...but i can not confirm those models)

It's been there a long time. It sat at Lexus for at least 6 months and ended up at Toyota across the street for a while now. Not sure what they are thinking with that price. Sticker price in 08 was $32k ish
