Nice! Thanks for the post. Feel free to repost as you get more miles on'm. I think I'll put my order in today so long tire warehouse gets their $*^% together, but it will still be good to know what to expect. Seems to me these tires are a great midroad AT at an afforadable price; would love to run some MT's on the truck (give it a slight hickish look), but also don't need to be another wasteful american that runs the highway getting crap gas mileage and ripping through rubber.

I have a feeling he was looking at 5 tires.
    5 x $126 = $630, + $130 for shipping = $760.
So the local place beat it by $20.
At least I hope that is what's up.

Very good point - I haven't bought a set of five tires in a long time so I didn't even think about it.

    Thanks!

Tire warehouse can't get them (which is where I have the gift certificate). They said they couldn't even back order them..they have some pretty special people working at these places somtimes. I'll have to spend some time jumping through hoops so I can redeem the certificate...

    From Tire Crawler:
    4x127.50 = $510
    +Shipping = $130
    Just Tires = $640

    From tire warehouse:
Just tires = $640 (price match)

Then you have mounting balancing ($56), they included grommets (valve stems?) and other crap I don't need + tax (maine tax @5%) and $744.56 was their price out the door.

Screw tires..weren't we supposed to have hovering cars by the year 2010?

My local dealership is selling me the AT3's for $660 out the door mounted on new rims and also put on the truck. That doesn't include balancing because the shop guy said that it shouldn't need that. But I thought it was a fair price.

Btw, the ones I'm ordering are the 265/75/16.

I hope this isn't seen as hijacking but...any chance Toyota would fight 265/75-16 on a warranty claim should something happen that is drivetrain/powertrain-related?

Given that the stock size is 265/70-16...

Just curious if you guys have done any reading on that - I've never let that stop me before but on this one...I may try and be smarter...

Get them balanced... I've never heard of a tire shop saying it's not required when putting new tires on rims. If you don't balance them they'll shake like hell. Balancing should be part of the mounting costs. Based on that comment alone I'd be very weary of that shop...

Maybe he meant you wouldn't need an alignment? That can usually run an extra $50-90 and if the alignment was good before the new tires, you wouldn't need to be re-aligned. If you haven't had an alignment in a while, it's worth it as an improperly aligned vehicle will prematurely wear tires.

You might have a little fight on your hands but they'd have to prove that the larger tires caused the drivetrain part to fail. Google Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, it basically says in order for the dealership to deny warranty work based on the addition of an aftermarket accessory, they would have to prove that the accessory in question caused the part to fail. Personally, it's all fine and dandy, but that would mean threatening legal action which rarely ends well.

Short version, it's a risk you take by alterning a vehicle while it's still under warranty.

Thanks for posting your thought process up - it's very similar to my own.

Haha no worry with the warranty. I've got an 02 Tacoma. I may have misunderstood him with the balancing and alignment. I just had it realigned about a month and a half ago and it's good. Idk, it's my local dealership service place that's going to be doing all this for me.

On a side note, I've been looking at the Hankook Dynapro ATM's and I'm really impressed with the tread pattern on those as well. I have a hard decision to make between the two. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately I can't tell you anything about the AT3's yet but I've had good experiences with every other set of Cooper's I've owned. As far as the Hankooks, I've only heard great things about them. A couple members who had them and the Cooper ATR's actually preferred the Hankooks. I don't think you can go wrong with either tire.

No doubt in my mind if anything goes wrong with the drive train they'll place the blame on the tires..they have the money, Lawyers and engineers to make things go their way.

I gave it alot of thought before going with the next size larger tire (as the warranty is still in effect for a quite some time). It's a gamble that likely won't pay off, but with no house payment, wife or kids, might as well take advantage of being young and numb. Saving up for a new transmission already ;)

I have a friend that just bought the Hancook atm 10's (or a model name similar) so time will tell how they pan out. Tread definitely looked aggressive. The price is right on the Hancook's, but I was told by the sales person at tire warehouse that he wouldn't sell Hancooks to his worst enemy...It's all what you have luck with.

I got the call, they're in! I've got an appointment to get them installed first thing Saturday morning :D

I ended up going with the AT3's in 265/70R17 and the tire shop finally came through! When do you get yours put on?
