catalytic converter clamps

i read about this in the latest Truck Trend magazine.
it is called CatClamps and it prevents your catalytic converter from being stolen. costs about $150 (which is cheaper than a new converter):

The CATCLAMP[SIZE=-4]TM[/SIZE] has two specially designed split collars with a security bolt and key design that lock tight to the exhaust pipe on either side of the converter, similar to a muffler clamp except it uses a key (included). This feature allows the CATCLAMP[SIZE=-4]TM[/SIZE] to be removed for adjustment, converter service or other mechanical work the vehicle may need that requires the exhaust to be removed from the vehicle. This feature also allows the CATCLAMP[SIZE=-4]TM[/SIZE] to be used on more than one vehicle. The CATCLAMP[SIZE=-4]TM[/SIZE] is made entirely from stainless steel so it will virtually last forever. These are all features exclusive to the CATCLAMP[SIZE=-4]TM[/SIZE] and not offered by the competition.
Specially designed heavy duty wire ropes are permanently attached to the collar halves. The top section of collars with the wire ropes is placed over the top of the catalytic converter, and the bottom section of collars with the wire ropes is placed underneath the converter. This unique design allows the CATCLAMP[SIZE=-4]TM[/SIZE] to protect all size and shape converters.
The two collar halves are bolted together and tightened securely to the exhaust pipe. This creates a heavy duty cage around the entire converter. The cage is then locked to the vehicle frame or cross member with the same heavy duty wire rope. Two stainless steel springs are then put around the CATCLAMP[SIZE=-4]TM[/SIZE] to eliminate the chance of the wire ropes rattling against the converter.
The specially designed wire rope is nearly impossible to cut without using industrial machines creating too much work for a thief in a hurry. The CATCLAMP[SIZE=-4]TM[/SIZE] will not affect the function of the catalytic converter. The CATCLAMP[SIZE=-4]TM[/SIZE] can be installed by anyone with basic mechanical knowledge in 20-30 minutes with a 3/8” ratchet and the CatKey installation/removal tool (included). There is no cutting drilling or welding involved in the installation process.

 

What kind of neighborhood do you live in where your CC is being stolen? I have never heard of such a thing. I have heard of airbags being stolen but this is a new one to me.

 

the clamp runs through the frame of the vehicle so you would have to use your oxy torch under the truck.... i think that would be very obvious.

 

there are some threads here about cats being stolen. apparently, it is becoming more prevalent.

 

I live in good area and my Cat was stolen.

 

If you are concerned about your Cats getting jacked just replace them with a URD Y pipe. Its nice, I have one.
