Nice! I went a bit opposite of you, and got my wife a 2011 Safire comp, basically the womens stumpy FSR. It comes in a solid 4lbs lighter than my Pitch (which will gain about 6-8oz when my new Fox 36 shows up :D), and gives her the FS, which she has become accustomed to.

How much does the 29er weigh, and if you dont mind, about what did you pay (knowing you probably got a discount for buying 2 bikes, etc). I am wondering if that is the route to take, or building her a lighter bike with 26" tires is still the best option.

Also, how tall is your Fiance?

Funny you mention the Pitch, I was trying to buy a near new 2010 off of Craigslist but the seller was taking his sweet time to reply. We did end up getting a better deal on both bikes since we bought them together, plus this shop offers free unlimited maintenance for life. This is my fiance first "real" bike, so it should be a good starting point for her and hopefully we won't need to upgrade anytime soon. The frame is a men's Small and she is 5'5", fits her perfectly. Weighs about 30lbs. She tried out the woman's specific Myka, but she preferred the feel of the 29er. They discounted her bike to $520 and also they swapped out the handlebars for some more comfortable riser bars, changed the grips from white to black and also changed the seat from white to black at no charge. She was worried about them getting too dirty lol.

Ok you knuckleheads, this Mod addiction is getting out of hand. I've been modding up my MTB and figured I'd do a little write up, It's a beast now and quite fast.

Here it is before I started reading TW
    [IMG]
First up were tires, I went with these UK's which have a harder compound to last longer on the road, but enough of a tread for middlin off-road, the best part is that I can pump these up to 65 PSI so they're damn quick on the road.

Next was the Aero bars, ya'll might think WTF? On a MTB? I'll admit not everyone does this but fancy carbon fiber ten speeds are for pussies and I would snap one of those in half. Most of what I do is for endurance and time, I'm not some 135lb euro-trash spandex wearin "team colors" shrimp, my body catches wind like a fucking sail. I went with Profile Designs which has a lot of ways to adjust it, you can rotate the whole deal higher or lower and the arm pads are spring loaded that stay up when not in use, the pads can also be adjusted higher relative to the handle bars, forwards or backwards AND they can be swiveled. Also the bars themselves can be moved forwards or backwards. It took awhile for my bike guy to track down the right handlebars for this but it was worth it.
Cat-Eye 8 function computer, it does average speed, top speed, distance time elapsed, two trip logs AND when you come to a stop, the timer stops so it only records time when you are in motion. It has a magnet dealie that is in the spokes with a reader on the forks.
Lights, taking a cue from you nuts, I can never have enough light. I didn't want to shell out the bread for the top end lights so I went with a 7 LED Cat's Eye up top and I modded my bright little Husky headlamp to fit on the neck post. I adjusted the straps and zip tied it in place. The little headlamp bezel swivels for either horizontal or vertical spread of light.
I should note here that the computer and LED have mounts that are designed for crossbars (like handlebars), This means they can't be mounted on Aero-bars which run front towards back, notice the white pipe where the computer is mounted and also the LED is mounted upside down, that's Sch 40 3/4 PVC pipe milled out to fit in between the Aero bars and it had to be lightly tapped into place which insured it will not slip out.
Other mods include the hard case Fox deal under the seat post, it has lot's of room and even has a little pocket on the underside of the upper lid that fits my Crackberry perfectly!, I took the old seatpost bag and strapped it under the upper bar. Rounding it out is the air-pump on the lower bar.
It's a beast, it's fast my normal ride is around thirty miles or so three to four times a week. the tuck with the Aero-bars added 1.25 MPH to my average and allows me to stay in higher gears against the wind. The ab workout with the tuck is insane at full throttle, it feels like sit-ups at 25mph.

Thanks to Scott and Mike at Alamo Bikes in Alamo CA for the parts and help!

So any of u experienced full susp riders out there got any strong opinions on which system is best? My Motolite has been a superb bike, but in the next year or so I'm gonna be looking for a 5.5 to 6.3" travel carbon frame to upgrade. I think fsr, vpp and dw link are all great, but mostly what I've read and heard from other riders is that the cream at the top seems to be dw. I'm definitely gonna ride before I buy but just wanted opionions. The Mojo SL-R is at the top of my list now. Pivot is getting ready to release a 5.7 carbon frame and of course Santa Cruz Nomad and Blur LT are possibilities.

ok tacoma world its time to buy a new bike hahaha.. ive been beating a gt avalanche 3.0 for 4 years now.. its a med frame and im 6 foot 2 so i need something that fits me...

what would be a decent bike in the 700 +/- range.. i think i want to stick on a hardtail and i think i would like a 29er.. but really want something that lasts.. i ride mostly medium single track trails and state parks fire roads.. nothing to serious but i would like to start hitting new hampshire ski mountains up during the summer..

a couple i had spotted online were the wahoo, rockhopper, raleigh talus and the like.. anyone have good things to say about these bikes..
is there a lesser known bike out there with better components?? im going shopping tomorrow but my local shops only carry big name bikes..

    thank you!

The guy selling is six foot and says it fits home fine.. but I've been told I need a 19 in frame at least.. what do you guys think??

    I'm 6'0, I have a 19" Trek Gary Fisher Collection Wahoo so I think you being 6'2 you'll atleast need a 19. I know I got my Wahoo for a little over $700.

x2 on a 19" frame. im 6' also and ride a 19. Check out the 2012 Wahoo i know it went to mechanical brakes for 2012 but thats probably a good thing since the hydraulic brakes on the 11 are shitty. I think you could find a 2011 Trek Marlin for under 700 used since i think new they went for around 700. Idk what the specs are for the rockhopper but i feel like 800 might be a little high.

check out pinkbike.com they always have a ton of bikes and usually arent priced too high so it will probably be easy to find what your looking for

check Clist too. I got my lightly used 07 specialized hardrock pro disk for 300.

    Im 5' 11" and its a 19" frame.

I rode last night for a few mins and I went to stand up to sprint and one of the reflectors on a pedel exploded off! haha I turned around to see what fell off my bike thinking it was gonna be my new rear deraillur...thank god it was just a shitty reflector
