another dumb TSB thread...

I know you will all hate me for this, but, Whats the actual payload capacity of my 2009 double cab? I want to say its 1260lbs, its going in for the TSB tomorrow and service told me to bring the truck loaded with wieght to replicate the problem. How much wieght in the bed do you guys think would be to much? Im thinking 800 would work without actually over loading the truck. Thoughts?

my truck used to bottom out with my racing atv, about 450 pounds evenly distributed

 

Does it need to be sitting on bumpstops at rest? or when driving and hitting bumps in the road?

Just got back from a 3000 mile roadtrip to go fly fishing in Montana. Had a small tent trailer behind the truck, three teenage kids, and some camping gear in the back. Close to the 1200 pounds but not over it. Hit the bump stops all the way from California to Montana. Same tent trailer and similar gear doesn't bother my son's 99 Tacoma at all.

Took it in for its first oil change and talked to the service manager about the sag. Basically told me tough luck get yourself some airbags. Will go back in with the TSB and see if that changes the approach.

Love the truck other than the capacity. Even hit some back roads along the Snake River in 4x4 and it did pretty well. Will definitely make a pain of myself if necessary to get the springs changed.

 

Just wanted to offer some words of encouragement. Be persistent with the dealer and escalate as necessary. Be polite but firm. They should eventually do it. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

 

I called my dealer in a small Oregon town and he said to come on in at 1PM for the upgrade. No BS no show me the load, just come and I will take care of it.....too bad my 5 lug did not qualify for the spring TSB.....only 4x4 and pre-runners.

If I was treated like some others here I would go straight to the Toyota 800 number.

So they okay'ed the TSB and ordered the parts, however, i tried to confirm that it was in fact a 4 leaf and he said no, its an "updated" 3 leaf pack. I part numbers he ordered are off by one number, but definetly not the current spring number i have.

He order 48210-04571 and 48220-04211.........TSB that i read under the TSB list (updated December 2010) calls for 48210-04570 and 48220-04210......what do you guys think? can anyone with a 4 leaf pack see if my numbers look correct or has Toyota actually upgraded the 3 lead pack? is my service guys wrong? i think he is.......comments?

 

No he's ordering the right parts. But he's wrong on the part that they are updated 3 leaf packs. It's a 4 leaf pack, or actually 3 leaves and an overload.

 

Also just an fyi, there is more than one TSB issued for the Tacoma regarding other issues.
