I'm in the same "boat" as you, looking for 17 - 22 foot bow rider, just want to make sure the truck can handle it comfortably, I have 33's on a v6 with 4.10 gears but still have the stock wheel/tires to put back on if i need to, also have to consider the extra weight of fuel, people, beer, and all the other boating crap needed.

 

Ha...tried for a 2 month period to haul my buddies 18 foot bass boat to and from with bad results. Ended up recruiting another buddy with a diesel to get it done without taxing the taco. However were not flatlanders out here. 1,200 elevation gain to get to lake and lots of ups and downs in between.

wow seems like an 18 foot bass boat would be cake, im in the hills as well and found it easy towing a 6 x 8 x 3 foot high box trailer stacked full of medium density fire wood and about 500lbs of camping gear in the bed, any idea of the weight of the bass boat? I may just start looking for random stuff to tow to the scale and start checking weights.

 

our 18 ft bass boat didnt cause too much of a problem with my taco, knew it was back there but didnt have a problem, not sure of the weight

 

No pics but I pull a 24' Malibu wakeboard boat with mine. Just about maxes the towing capacity and I don't like it but I think once I get some new leafs it will sit better. Towing definitely does a number on your gas mileage!

 

Bass boat or fish & ski would be right up my alley. Any idea what the weight of the boat was?

 

How lengthy are the trips you take?

 

Didn't have a picture with it in tow, boat is a 16' Tin w/ 25hp.

Hauled with ease, and yes there were hills... believe its a 16' Bass Tracker

Not sure. The above post is an aluminum boat which is apples to oranges. Pulling my fiberglass bass boat with a 200HP Yamaha motor (which weighs ~900 lbs itself) does not cut the mustard haha. Guess total boat weight to be 2200lbs. The road to the lake is two lane highway 65mph and if you dont move it you;ll get runover by oilfield traffic And remember I'm at 6200ft elevation, which makes a difference. In PHX my truck feels like a sports car!

Anyways my point is the taco will do it, just not smoothly.

 

I pulled my uncles 20 something foot Woolridge HEAVY steal boat with 2, 50hp engines and holy hell im glad I didnt have to go up any hills!!!

 

My malibu is 4,000 lbs without trailer. And an empty 84 gallon tank. It should use trailer brakes but I don't have them. I do have the towing package.
