Bypass mod on DNX5120...

Ok I am getting my stuff installed saturday and I want to make sure the bypass mod is done but so I know, what exactly dod you need to do here? Ground the emergency brake wire? If so what color and is it marked, etc. Pics?

 

That is a good question..I am debating on getting one. Is there also a speed sensing wire with these?

 

ground the green Parking break wire out and it will work

Edit: this is what I have read on numerous forums about the DNX5120. Just sold my JVC AVX810 so I'll have the 5120 next week hopefully!!!!!

 

The Parking brake wire will be the longest light green wire on the wiring harness

 

On the truck side or the HU side? I am assuming you take the long, light green wire from the HU and ground it?

Fact is I asked my installer if he could this and at first he wanted to charge me, lol. I said "come on it's just grounding a wire" and than he paused and said no problem, we will take care of it. I will remind them agian on saturday but I am asking in case they don't do it and I need to. It would be useless to not be able to use the nav/dvd while rolling.

make sure you get your firmware updates. there is one from kenwood and one for the garmin. get it here !!!!Important!!!!! do this before you do anything on your new HU, it will save you all the trouble of resetting everything you have programed and will allow the

i just spliced the ground wire for the dvd player into the ground wire off of the radio, its already grounded of course so you dont have to go through the hassle of running it the whole way to the ebrake. 10x easier. and i didnt have to do any updates on mine and everything works fine?

 

what kind of ipod do you run with it?

 

you can check the firmware version that is currently on it in the setup menue somewhere i think. the up to date version is 1.5.1 from kenwood and 2.50 from garmin.

and i run the 4th gen nano, do you know exactly what it updates for the gps?

 

Dont know exactly what the garmin updates but the update was released in Oct 2008 so its pretty current.

the Kenwood firmware updates:

I have the 7120 and there was no speed sensing wire to hook up. I know that the Eclipse units need to be hooked to the speed sensor wire and I think also the Pioneer units, not completely sure though.

For the parking brake sensor, just ground that out like everyone else has been saying.

 

I'm very surprised they would even consider doing this. It's strictly forbidden for them to wire head units or install devices in any way in which the driver may watch video while driving, and exposes the shop to liability if a client gets in a wreck.
Usually work like this points towards other concerns, such as cutting corners on quality.

Yeah I have thought about that but this place is more of a high end custom audio shop....they don't typically do off the shelf installs. I am still not 100% sure he will do it (I offered him a few bucks on the side ) but I will know tomorrow.

 

Why did you sell the JVC? This unit is on my short list.

 

The JVC doesn't seem to do GPS from the looks of it. Additionally, I would typically consider Kenwood > JVC
