Time to paint and get all the new stuff put in.

once I get a break from work im gonna put new base boards in

 

My house is pier & beam and I have tile in both bathrooms no issues here one of the bathroom has been in for over a 2 years.

And my new bathroom has an underlayment to help avoid cracking.

 

our house flexes pretty bad. our bedroom door will not shut all the way right now... We have not had rain in over 6 months, iirc. I didnt want to chance it and have to always mess with fixing a cracked floor.

 

More than likely this is because the posts need to be shimmed or replaced. When you walk on the floor, does it flex? That's at least one indication of the need to shim/replace posts.

My house is post and pier as well. I have tile floors in the bathrooms and no cracking issue at all. As Jerry said, proper prep is how you avoid cracked tile.

 

Cover that window in the bath area with a waterproof curtain, overlapping away from the showerhead. I inspect houses professionally and often see / hear loose tiles not only around the faucet handles and faucet area, but also oftem beneath the window arae when it isn't protected.

Water getting into those seams around window area equals not only loose tiles over time, but potential damage to the structure behind, as well as those pesky carpenter ants, and i suspect, termites in your neck of the woods.

 

No lose floors. For that window I wanna rip it out and replace it with those glass blocks, I'm not sure what they are called. Today I'm cutting and installing new baseboards and putting in the cabinet and sink. If I have enough time I'll put the new light fixture in.

 

I redid my bathroom and had a tub like that. Iron...I took a BFH and it came apart. It sure worked me out though. Looks good so far.

Now I'm trying to get the drain for the sink hooked up. Kind of a pain since the sink is off centered from the drain

here are the most recent pics. I spent most of sunday getting stuff done in there.
Curved shower curtain rods are the biggest pain in the ass. That took longer than cutting and installing the baseboards! haha

also, dont go to bed bath and beyond for towel bars. The towel bar, hand towel holder, and TP holder cost $100! My wife went and picked that stuff out. We took it back, went to lowes and got pretty much the same thing and only spent $40.



new baseboards and quater round. Just need to paint them now.


Hopefully today I can make some more progress

I went in to work a little late today so I could get the light fixture put in.

got the damn thing put in and only the outside 2 lights work, the middle one doesnt come on. I swapped bulbs to see if one was burned out and no luck...damnit. I hooked up the power wire and the ground wire (white and black) like I always do. this has a third "gound" wire that i didnt hook up, there was no where to connect it to. Would this have anything to do with it not working properly?

 

from the limited knowledge I have with electricity.... most likely yes.. If it is another ground, just connect it with the other ground. We have a light switch that also controls the speed of the ceiling fan like that and we have 2 ground (one for light and one for ceiling fan speed) going in to the main ground wire.

 

the white wire is a neutral and it should work without the ground, but the ground wire (green or bare) should be connected to the box. the bulb might not be making contact with the tab in the bottom of the lamp holder. with the switch off lift the tab a little bit and that should do the trick.

yea, its just a bare ground wire. Ill connect it with the other ground.

DO NOT connect the ground wire to the white wire, the bare ground gets connected to the box so that if the hot wire touches the fixture the breaker will trip, if you connect the bare wire to the white wire the breaker will not trip if the hot wire touches the fixture.

EDIT - connecting the bare to the white wire should trip the breaker if the fixture become energized, but don't do that.

 

what do you mean the "box"?
